Thanksgiving is all about food, fun, family, friends and giving thanks. I am thankful for the opportunity each day to have incredible, beautiful creatures in my life and to be able to share their specialness through my photos with you. Thank you for looking at my photo montages each week and thank you for your feedback. Benny the dog, Madison the cat (featured above) and I wish you all a very warm Thanksgiving. Enjoy my video from 2997 which is all about animals enjoying their food.

This week we took a ride out to Riverhead, Long Island to visit the Long Island Aquarium and Exhibition Center
(formerly called Atlantis Marine World Aquarium).
It is the home of lots of terrific, well lit, clean tanks filled with beautiful and amazing fish. It is also the home to African Penguins, sea lions, seals, otters and four Japanese Macaques (snow monkeys). The two older male snow monkeys, Pico and Juraco lived at the Central Park Zoo and moved to a special new home which was built for them seven years ago. They were joined this year by two younger snow monkeys, Zeppy and Oz, who also lived at the Central Park Zoo. It was great to see our little guys again. They all are looking great and seem to be enjoying the good life.
Enjoying this very short video of the Flamboyant Cuttlefish that we saw chowing down on some food. Be amazed at the tentacled-like projections that come from its mouth to grab the food.

Last Sunday’s Fall Photo Workshop at the Central Park Zoo was terrific. A good time was had by all. Below are some of the shots I took while enjoying the pumpkin enrichment for some of CPZ’s residents.

Last week found us on the West Coast visiting family. A trip to the terrific, ever growing San Francisco Zoo is always on a West Coast agenda. Enjoy some of my photos below.
Today is my fall photography workshop at the Central Park Zoo. The class is sold out and should be lots of fun — think pumpkins.
There are lots of other fun and interesting classes going on at the zoo through March. For instance, on Saturday, November 5th, our terrific Vet Tech is giving a class on what it is like to take care of all of the animals in the zoo. Check it out and the other classes here.

Last weekend found us traveling south to the always enchanting, Philadelphia Zoo. They have had a delightful baby boom. We only got to see the adorable jaguar cub but that was plenty of cuteness for one trip. We will return soon. Check out my video of Baby girl Batu, born in October of 2009, at three months old. Her mother is called Tua and father is named Sugi.

Fall fun for all at the Central Park Zoo. This week’s photo montage features some of our beautiful mammals. Check out Gus, our polar bear, Amaya, one of our red pandas, a snow leopard, one of our three coatis, a sea lion, snow monkey, cavies and a mound of banded mongooses. Also included is our fast growing Baby Irene Hope, born during Hurricane Irene and Oliver, one of our pot-bellied pigs. Those sensational ducks are rajahs, pink-eared and harlequin. Come visit!

Nothing says fun like a day being surrounded by fabulous animals and being able to get up close and personal with them. We spent an unforgettable day at Six Flags Wild Safari in Jackson NJ, took more photos than ever and smiled for hours afterwards. I highly recommend this experience for one and all.

So what do you do ‘while at the zoo’ when it is pouring outside? I spent lots of time in the Central Park Zoo’s Tropical Aviary. Without bias I can honestly say that it is the best tropical aviary of any that I have seen of all of the zoos I have visited. It is a delight of color, sounds and flight.
In today’s montage you can spot our fledged Scarlet Ibis chick in the second row on the left. The video below spotlights some Scarlet Ibis chicks that I saw at the Bronx Zoo in 2007.

I thought sharing some photos of adorable baby animals residing at the Central Park Zoo would give you a much needed smile on this most difficult of anniversary days. Smile at our baby banded mongooses, baby Patagonian cavy, Baby Irene Hope (the lamb born during Hurricane Irene), a Nicobar Pigeon chick, a young Red Panda, a very wet snow monkey, two gorgeous snow leopards and a very fast growing scarlet Ibis chick.
Check out the Fall/Winter Programs being offered at the Central Park Zoo including four of my photography workshops. You can also now register on line.
