Spring at the Central Park Zoo is terrific. Come visit us and meet our four new Rockhopper Penguins, who join the other three species, the Gentoo, Chinstrap and King penguins. We also have an adorable baby lamb and a beautiful new goat. Our large waterfowl collection all look beautiful and are fun to watch as they display to one another.  There’s also lots of nest building to watch in the Tropical Aviary.

If you like my photos and enjoy taking pictures yourself, why not come to the zoo for one of my photo workshops this spring? There are still a few spots left in each workshop. The three workshops  are highlighted below. You can read all about them and sign up on line here.

– On April14th (8:30 to 11:30) we are repeating our popular Breakfast With the Birds adult class where you will have the chance to hear all about our amazing collection and then are able to photograph the birds during morning census.  The class finishes up at the Apple store for a fabulous editing tutorial from the techies at Apple.

– We also have a family program scheduled for Earth Day (Sunday, April 22nd from 10:00 to 11:30) and is geared to adults and kids (ages 6 to 18). Share the joy of wildlife and photography with the family. It will be fun and you can take the memories home through your photos.

– And finally, a new workshop called Urban Birds of Prey on Sunday May 20th (9:00 to 11:00) where you will meet some of our raptor ambassadors up-close and personal. This will afford you great opportunities to photograph and learn about these beautiful birds. Looking forward to seeing some of you soon at the Zoo.

Splish splash they were takin’ a bath! The Central Park Zoo has a fabulous collection of waterfowl.  But they are not the only ones that enjoy splish splashing at the zoo.  Come visit!

My zoo-cation pal, Mary Schwalm has been in Indianapolis all week working for her newspaper, the Eagle Tribune, in North Andover, MA.  She went to the Indianapolis Zoo to see if their residents had an opinion on today’s Super Bowl.  She rigged it – but it was fun to watch.  Go Giants!

Hard to believe it is winter this weekend.  The temperatures are hovering around the 60 degree mark and the zoo is, as always, a great place to visit. Remember what it was like just one year ago? In case you forgot – here are two montages from around the same time last year – January 2 and January 16.

Below are some photos of this week’s winter fun (sans snow) at the Central Park Zoo.

Don’t forget, I will be presenting 2011 – A Year in Photos at the Central Park Zoo at the Fifth Avenue Apple store on January 11th at 7PM.  Come one, come all – it is free and it will be fun.

Giving and receiving gifts during the holiday is grand but at the Central Park Zoo gifts are given all year long.  This week’s photo montage salutes just some of the arrivals during 2011 at the Central Park Zoo.  The arrival of a male red panda, the birth of four Banded Mongoose, two baby Cavies, eight Penguin chicks, magpie robin chicks, a first Scarlet Ibis chick, the arrival of two young female sea lions, lots of adorable goats, two baby lambs and of course, the arrival of a lamb named Baby Irene Hope born during the maelstrom called, Hurricane Irene. The zoo had oodles of ducklings born this year including the very important Chinese Mergansers and just recently, a rare, Pink-eared duckling.

My dog, Benny, seen above, is my present to you – looking better than ever.

One more thing – I have been invited back to the Fifth Avenue Apple Store and will be giving a photo presentation on January 11th at 7 PM.  The topic is ‘A Year in Photos at the Central Park Zoo’.  Come one, come all – it is free and it will be fun.

Check out this video of the Central Park Zoo’s two red pandas enjoying a little browse.

Apples and oranges are but two of the manyyummy foods that the animals at the Central Park Zoo get to eat each day.  Friday night’s bat enrichment at the second weekend of Winterfest inspired me to create a montage out of some of my animal/food photos.  Mangia!

– There is one more weekend of Winterfest at the Central Park Zoo.  -You should try to come and bask in the beauty of the city lights while at the zoo.

Be a Wildlife Photographer!  Do you know a kid that is aged 9 through 12?  Looking for that perfect gift? Sign him/her up for my photography workshop at the Central Park Zoo on January 7, 2012.  There are still a few spaces available.

–  My good friend and zoo-cation buddy Mary Schwalm has created a terrific 2012 animal calendar . Each calendar is just $10 (shipping will be at cost), a super bargain for a perfect unique and personal gift! As in years past, the calendar fits into a cd sized jewel case that doubles as its display case. Contact Mary for details.

– Check out the last installment of our eight penguin chick’s beginnings.  My friend, Sue Cardillo the assistant curator at CPZ tells the rest of their story below.

As I send out this Sunday ‘While at the Zoo’ photo montage it is raining buckets in Manhattan. My dog Benny braved his morning walk and is now rolling around on the rug attempting to dry himself off.  When the rain stops come visit the Central Park Zoo to see our Patagonian baby Cavy, featured in today’s montage at one day old.  While you are visiting don’t forget to see our snow leopards, two red pandas, baby ibis chick, Gus our popular polar bear and a fabulous collection of birds.
