Happy Holidays from Casa Lobo‘Tis better to give than to receive. It is a great adage and we saw it first hand when some of the animals at the Central Park Zoo got surprise food treats this week disguised in festive holiday casing. Check out our snow leopard, snow monkeys, red pandas, Southern coatis, saki monkeys, black and white ruffed lemurs, banded mongoose, muntjac and cotton top tamarins being enriched by our gifts.

The handsome dog above is of course Benny, my oft photographed pooch.  A very Happy Holiday season to all of you from the gang at Casa Lobo.

Enjoy this video I took on December 20th, 2009 when we had a foot of snow fall in the City. Along with the snow our then three year old snow leopard got a holiday gift to play  with all day.

Those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer are lots of fun at the Central Park Zoo. This week’s assortment of fabulous animals features a very wet snow monkey, Hana, Zoey the snow leopard, Lobo the coati, one of the riot of colors poison dart frog, Biru the red panda, a white-naped crane, a bathing red bird of paradise, mousedeer, Chinstrap penguin and more.  That amazing pink color behind the snow monkey photo is the sensational crepe myrtle trees that bloom through the late summer. Come visit!

Next time you visit the Central Park Zoo, or any zoo, take some time to really observe the residents. The animals express themselves in mostly non-verbal ways.  Today’s photo montage features leaps, wing spreads and facial expressions that made me smile. Enjoy! Also watch one of my favorite animals in the tropic building at the Central Park Zoo. I have nicknamed this Prehensile-tailed Skink, Leon. May is a glorious month.  The recent rains have made the Central Park Zoo‘s gardens even more spectacular.  Come visit and see our red pandas, snow leopards, sea lions, lemurs, white-naped cranes, amazing tropical rain forest, our two new baby goats, Marble and Mica and much, much more. Here is special salute to Scooter (and her pals, April and Clarisse) featured in my June, 2007 video of Central Park Zoo’s California sea lions.  We will all miss Scooter. She was a very special sea lion. Hard to believe it is winter this weekend.  The temperatures are hovering around the 60 degree mark and the zoo is, as always, a great place to visit. Remember what it was like just one year ago? In case you forgot – here are two montages from around the same time last year – January 2 and January 16.

Below are some photos of this week’s winter fun (sans snow) at the Central Park Zoo.

Don’t forget, I will be presenting 2011 – A Year in Photos at the Central Park Zoo at the Fifth Avenue Apple store on January 11th at 7PM.  Come one, come all – it is free and it will be fun.

Last Sunday’s Fall Photo Workshop at the Central Park Zoo was terrific. A good time was had by all. Below are some of the shots I took while enjoying the pumpkin enrichment for some of CPZ’s residents.

Know a teenager that likes photography?  There are still a few spaces left in my workshop called Be a Wildlife Photographer! for teens at the Central Park Zoo on Sunday, November 13, from 9 to 10:30.  You can sign up on line here.

I shot this video last week while watching our playful Banded Mongoose ravage their pumpkin. Happy Halloween!

Fall fun for all at the Central Park Zoo.  This week’s photo montage features some of our beautiful mammals.  Check out Gus, our polar bear, Amaya, one of our red pandas, a snow leopard, one of our three coatis, a sea lion, snow monkey, cavies and a mound of banded mongooses. Also included is our fast growing Baby Irene Hope, born during Hurricane Irene and Oliver, one of our pot-bellied pigs. Those sensational ducks are rajahs, pink-eared and harlequin. Come visit!

I thought sharing some photos of adorable baby animals residing at the Central Park Zoo would give you a much needed smile on this most difficult of anniversary days. Smile at our baby banded mongooses, baby Patagonian cavy, Baby Irene Hope (the lamb born during Hurricane Irene), a Nicobar Pigeon chick, a young Red Panda, a very wet snow monkey, two gorgeous snow leopards and a very fast growing scarlet Ibis chick.

Check out the Fall/Winter Programs being offered at the Central Park Zoo including four of my photography workshops. You can also now register on line.

Watch 16 month old snow monkey Zeppy playing in the water in the fall of 2008 at the Central Park Zoo.

As I send out this Sunday ‘While at the Zoo’ photo montage it is raining buckets in Manhattan. My dog Benny braved his morning walk and is now rolling around on the rug attempting to dry himself off.  When the rain stops come visit the Central Park Zoo to see our Patagonian baby Cavy, featured in today’s montage at one day old.  While you are visiting don’t forget to see our snow leopards, two red pandas, baby ibis chick, Gus our popular polar bear and a fabulous collection of birds.
