Not much to say other than it is October, and I love bats.

I wanted to visit the Bronx Zoo one more time before the cold weather sets in. Winter visits are fun too but who knows when we will get snow this year?  My visit proved great – highlighted by an adorable snow leopard cub, sea lion pup, growing tiger cubs, baby squirrel monkey, young gorillas and Angolan monkey and much more. I logged in at 7.5 miles but it was worth every step.

One of my favorite books as a kid was ‘ A Tree Grows in Brooklyn’ by Betty Smith. Today’s photo montage salutes the Prospect Park Zoo which grows (just like that tree) with each of my visits. I have mentioned that the Prospect Park Zoo was my childhood zoo and it still holds a special place in my heart. Go visit!

Couldn’t resist the play on words about Toledo in today’s title. I have made umpteen trips to Toledo to visit good friends who have relocated there in the past few years. Every visit gets better and better. The Toledo Zoo grows more expansively each year and it is always a fun and adventurous place to visit. A shout out to Jeff, Jason, John, Chuck, Karen, Juan, Baby Olive, Juba, Leela, Picasso and Zack for the fun and laughs. I will be back soon.

Thought I would share some of my very favorite faces that I work with at the Central Park Zoo. Their beauty makes my job simple.

The term ‘sitting ducks’ is usually not taken literally – but here you go. For those that ask me to identify my photos the following ducks are featured today. Chinese Mandarins, Spectacled and Common Eiders, Red-breasted Mergansers, Harlequins, Marbled Teal, White-headed, Pink-eared, Falcated, Philippine, Ruddy shelducks, Long-tailed, Scaly sided Mergansers, Pygmy geese (really ducks) and Baer’s Pochard. All of these photos were taken at the Central Park Zoo and the mature ducks can be seen today at the  Zoo.
I will be running my seventh annual October (think pumpkins) photo series experience at the Central Park Zoo on Sun, Oct 29, 2017 from 8:30AM – 10:00AM. It is filling up fast. For tickets click here.

I thought I would break up the usual animal themed Sunday photo montage with some delicious and gorgeous looking flowers and vegetables seen at the Union Square Green Market .  I admit to not being a cook and I am a picky eater but I still love color, form and design.

Sunrises with Jack the Dog August 27, 2017

Having Jack the Dog in my life for the past 13 months has been almost perfect. He is an adorable, sweet, quiet, cat-loving senior pooch. However, he has one major flaw. He gets up at 4:41 AM each day (give or take a few minutes). No matter when we have a night walk he gets up at 4:41. So out we go into the quiet, mostly darkened NYC streets. We try not to wake the homeless people sleeping on the Madison Square Park benches. Our route is the same each morning. In trying to find an upside to this schedule I realized that we catch some amazing sunrises (and moon-sets) during these walks. I have been photographing them with my phone and thought it was time to share some of them with you. Enjoy.

Last week’s fun vacation to the Toronto area was filled with luscious gardens and fabulous art. One of our stops was the Royal Botanical Gardens where they were featuring 14 themed Legos sculptures amidst the surrounding gardens.
