Visit the Central Park Zoo from Memorial Day through July 4th to witness a garden of pure color and delight. Our Central Garden will be filled with hundreds of roses, including English, Damask, Bourbon, Hybrid Tea’s and Shrubs. Come early and often as the flowers bud and blossom throughout the weeks.  While you are smelling the flowers you cannot help but adore our newest sea lion pup, 11 month old Edith (seen above).  She shares the sea lion pool with Katie, April and Scooter.\

A recent trip to Brooklyn’s New York Aquarium did not disappoint.  The newly designed Conservation Hall is beautiful as is the refreshed Glover’s Reef.  My only regret was I did not walk down the street for a delicious Nathan’s hot dog.  Don’t forget to scroll down below this week’s montage to see my new video of the Central Park Zoo‘s Tufted Puffins, Spectacled and King Eiders.

No trip away from home is complete without a stop at a new Zoo.  Last week while enjoying the flowers, art and chocolate of Belgium and the Netherlands we stopped in at the Artis Zoo in Amsterdam.  We had an Amsterdam good time.

A fun trip south to the Philadelphia Zoo did not disappoint.  We went specifically to visit Baby Batu the orangutan but found instead, two week old baby Leo, a white-handed gibbon clinging tightly to his mother.  Across from little Leo was another cute new arrival – a baby sifaka.  Seeing baby Batu would have been a trifecta so we settled for a delicious daily double. Don’t forget to check out two battling Naked More Rats and my favorite video of the Giant Otters below.

Rabbits were aplenty at the Catskill Region Rabbit Show in Rhinebeck NY last Saturday. We had never seen so many rabbits.  To name a few: Himalayans, Belgian Hares, Flemish Giants, Holland Lops, Giant Chinchillas, Dwarf Hotots, Harelquins, Thriantas and more.  Enjoy this seasonal photo montage.

Spring has sprung and the Central Park Tisch Children’s Zoo has a leaping lamb and an air born baby goat or two (actually five).  Come visit.  Bring your smile and your camera. It’s lots of fun and it won’t last long as they grow up very quickly.

Spring has sprung and the Central Park Zoo is lively and fun.  Come see another new baby mini-nubian goat named Barbara Rose and two adorable baby lambs.  If your timing is right you will also be able to see our male snow leopard, Bo, who made his public debut last week.

Six week old King, the little mini-nubian goat kid, now resides at the Queens Zoo.  He is adorable and well worth a trip out to this beautiful space filled with amazing animals.

Wildlife Photography – New Price and an Additional Hour at the Apple Store

Some new and exciting news about this Spring’s photo class taking place at the Central Park Zoo on May 22nd.  We have added an additional hour to the class where we will take the short walk to the Apple Store on 5th Ave. and 59th St. for a private photo editing workshop with the Apple staff.  You’ll learn to edit your zoo photos and then engage in a group analysis of some of the participants’ photos.

In this class, taught by me, you’ll learn how to apply knowledge of animal behavior to wildlife photography to get the perfect shot. After reviewing some of the tricks of the trade while enjoying a continental breakfast, you will photograph the zoo animals in the spring weather –  all before the zoo opens. We will also have special animal guests and will stage some of our animals so that you can take their picture – all part of this unique experience. You’ll also have time to photograph the myriad of roses and peonies in the Central Garden. A collage of the best shots from each student will be emailed to the group. Personal digital camera required.

To see some of my photography, visit my website or take a look at the Winter Photography class photo album on the Central Park Zoo Facebook Page.

Date & Time: Sunday, May 22 9:00 – noon
