Last Tuesday, January fifth was National Bird Day. The craziness of this week in DC overshadowed this avian observance. I managed some of my own anxiety by spending early morning hours with the birds at the Central Park Zoo. Their lovely songs, cooing and chirping calmed my soul. So I wondered why the term ‘for the birds’ is a negative one. The expression means worthless, useless, ridiculous or foolish. I categorically disagree. These beautiful birds calmed me down this week so I salute them with this photo montage. Please continue to wear your mask, wash your hands and socially distance.

Also bird brain doesn’t make sense. Birds are lucky enough to have beauty and brains. Plus they can fly away from nonsense!

Birds are practically perfect in ever way. And your images capture that. Thank you for these. They have lifted my spirits during a difficult time. I miss the birds and the zoo so very much.
Stay safe and well.
Gratefully,

Had never thought of penguins as birds before. And, of course they are, “flightless” birds.

These bird photos are NOT for the birds at all. Great color, nice layout. I didn’t know penguins were birds, but i’ll take your word for it.
Take care, as well as photos.

Like the derogatory phrase “bird brain” … as if the very lovely little creatures weren’t also very smart … sheesh.
Thanks for bringing the birds to my day – love them all,
