The American Museum of Natural History recently opened its very impressive Gilder Centar. The Gilder Center features new exhibition galleries and one-of-a-kind experiences, including an insectarium, butterfly vivarium, floor-to-ceiling collections displays, and more—and connects to the rest of the American Museum of Natural History on four floors. I admit that AMNH is not my favorite space in NYC but I found myself enjoying this visit thoroughly. We were also delighted to find a new yummy restaurant in this space. No more will one have to endure the very loud, crowded cafeteria. I suggest you enter this new space via the Columbus Avenue entrance to get the full architectural experience.

The exhibit Extinct and Endangered at the Museum of Natural History is fascinating, beautiful and amazing. British photographer Leon Biss has created eye popping, way larger than life (some are over 8 ft wide) photos of insects. ‘Photographs in Extinct and Endangered are created from over 10,000 individual images using a bespoke camera system and microscope objectives, with the final artworks revealing intricate details normally hidden from the human eye’. This exhibit is available with general admission tickets. Go see it and avail yourself of this photographic wonder. Speaking of photos, I am happy to announce the Central Park Zoo will once again be holding adult photo sessions after a two year hiatus. This time we feature my favorite – PUMPKINS! Cincinnati Zoo – mini-zoocation ends and my camera dies June 11, 2017

Our mini-May Zoocation finale was at the Cincinnati Zoo. It was a rainy, bleak day and after one click, my camera died. We tried triage to no avail. After a small ‘woe is me’ breakdown I took out my iPhone 6s. All of the photos in today’s montage were taken with my smart phone. I like the Cincinnati Zoo (second visit) but the weather caused many of the animals to be indoors. Despite not seeing adorable baby hippo, Fiona, we had a great time. PS – they have the best insect house we have even seen.
