We are living through strange times because of COVID19. It is the first time NYC’s St. Patrick’s Day parade, which draws about 150,000 marchers and two million spectators, will not go on as planned in more than 250 years. It is, like most things, postponed until a later date. I salute the many zookeepers and zoo employees around the US for taking care of our amazing animal collections and facilities while this virus circulates. Stay safe and wash your hands. The photo above the title is my dog, Mr. Pepe, who is doing his best to celebrate at home.

Today is St. Patrick’s Day. It is customary to wear green clothing, shamrocks or an accessory; which is called the “wearing of the green“. Many of our Central Park Zoo animals sport green everyday. Erin go Bragh!

In anticipation of this week’s St Patrick’s Day celebrations I thought gathering photos of ‘green’ animals might be fun. All of today’s photos are from the Central Park Zoo except for the bottom photo which is of green iguanas at the Prospect Park Zoo. And speaking of green animals, Kermit said it best: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpiIWMWWVco
