Zoo #5 on our Pacific Northwest 2019 zoocation was Portland’s terrific Oregon Zoo. This 64 acre growing zoo was once called the Portland Zoo and then the Washington Park Zoo. They have been busy renovating and expanding habitats. A HUGE shout out to old friend Director Don Moore for spending some time with us.
Terrific series of photos

Beautiful set of pictures Judy. Mark would have loved your otter shots. Can’t believe what a great shot you got of the little mole. They are usually impossible to get. Great job! Thanks for sharing.

I was at the “Portland zoo” 3 1/2 years ago. The tiny elephant enclosure was deplorable: just dirt, only one tree trunk on the ground to play with, food was hey out of tiny boxes water in small containers right next door they were working on building a new exhibit for them with heavy machinery running full blast, enough to drive the elephants insane I would’ve thought. Also some of them were in isolation with pneumonia. If any of the elephants survived I hope they have better conditions. Could you update them? Lori October 21, 2019 Livingston, Montana

They have greatly expanded their elephant enclosure and it is very nice now. The elephants seemed just fine to me.
