Remember writing postcards especially when you traveled? I used to send myself postcards at the end of a trip to see how long it took to get to my home. Once again the Museum of the City of NY has brought us an exhibit that makes one smile. During the 1920s and ’30s, the bold new look of Art Deco heralded New York’s arrival as a cosmopolitan metropolis: a center of architecture, design, fashion, and culture. The picture postcard, a form of modern communication, transmitted vibrant images and messages around the globe. Art Deco City: New York Postcards from the Leonard A. Lauder Collection illuminates the key role postcards played in transforming New York into an international capital during the years between World Wars. Featuring over 250 postcards as well as decorative arts, fashion, photography, drawings, and architectural models, Art Deco City immerses you into the dazzling style that defined the modern city. That said – I most certainly was underdressed. More than an aesthetic, Art Deco was the look that sold the city to the world. This exhibit is on through February 17, 2025. While visiting the museum please do not forget to experience the heart pulsing, fun, fast paced, colorful, You Are Here” exhibit (which is right next to the postcards) and draws on the rich archive of movies set in New York, combining thousands of cinematic moments across 16 screens. That delightful movie experience is on through October of 2025. I have seen it multiple times and have enjoyed it over and over again. FYI – The MCNY is open every day.

My NYC apartment has a perfect view of the beginning of the annual Pride Parade. It is always festive, colorful fun and very loud. Hope everyone enjoys the day wherever you are. Stay safe and have fun. My little gang has gone all out this year in colors of the rainbow.

My friend Robyn and I ascended to another observatory this week. The Empire State Building was calling our name. It was a glorious day and it was not crowded at all. The views, as always, were spectacular. We groused about all of the ugly new buildings that obscure views and destroy the skyline. That said, we had good laughs and are talking about our next adventure.

Looks like it might not rain on our NYC pride parade today – at least not all day. Happy Pride!

After a few of the horrible smoke filled acrid air days we have had I was happy that we went up to Top of the Rock several weeks ago. My friend Robyn Roth-Moise and I like to visit observation decks. I hadn’t been to Top of the Rock in over 20 years and it was fun to revisit. It is located atop Rockefeller Center and has splendid views of the city I love. Enjoy today’s photos. If you like high places, here are a few of the other special spots to see this amazing city. The Edge , One World Observatory , Empire State Building , One Vanderbilt .

Tonight is the first of eight nights of Hanukkah. It isn’t really an important holiday on the Jewish calendar but since it falls so close to Christmas it has become more about merchandise (and of course food). We celebrate just about everything here at Casa Lobo. Here are some fun photos from the past and present. A shout out to my very cooperative pets over the years – Madison, Benny, One-eyed Jack, Roberta, Audrey Pete and of course, Mr. Pepe. Let’s all add a ‘J’ to that Oy!

To celebrate World Photography Day my pal Robyn and I attended a special sunrise opportunity at SUMMIT One Vanderbilt. This was our third visit to this amazing observation deck. Getting there by 5AM was challenging but apparently hundreds of other photographers decided to do the same thing. I have never seen so much camera gear and accessories. It was a fun experience but we probably do not need to repeat it. Like City views? Check out our first visit in November of 2021 here. Still like views? Check out our second visit here.

It has been a long tough week for most of us. It is incomprehensible to lose a Constitutional right. The Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution provides a fundamental “right to privacy” that protects a pregnant woman’s liberty to choose whether to have an abortion. That all changed on Friday with the outrageous SCOTUS decision. Thought I would try to put a smile or two on faces out there by sharing some photos of my little collection of critters as they celebrate Pride without prejudice.

Now that we are all venturing out as we get vaccinated it is time to make up for the lost COVID year. Fresh from my adventure to the Edge a few weeks ago we decided to go to the 86th floor and watch the sun rise from atop the Empire State Building. it is amazing that this iconic building was completed in just 13 months. I hadn’t been to the ESB since I was a kid and my buddy, Amy had never been – so off we went. I was not expecting the most fabulous sunrise (as long as we did not have fog I would be happy). The city is quiet on a Saturday morning and it was great watching the hints of light and color on the horizon. If was a wonderful experience (if you don’t count that fact that I forgot to put the battery in my SLR camera). All of today’s photos were taken with my iPhone. If you can get up early you might consider trying this unique, fun adventure. Before departing the venue you should visit the second floor which is filled with history, interactive exhibits and of course – King Kong.

If you missed last night’s sensational light show projected on the Empire State Building here are just a few images that I was able to capture. Illuminating article from the NY Times hereESPROJECTYes, the image above is a bit of whimsy added to the light show.  It is that famous gorilla climbing up the building.
