Winter gave us one last gasp of cold, wind and snow this week. The animals at the Central Park Zoo did not mind at all. Come visit before it all melts away.

All WCS zoos were closed on February 9th during the snowstorm. I was at the zoo bright and early the next day to catch our amazing collection as they emerged from their holding areas to see the freshly fallen snow. What fun.

It is hard to believe that summer is over. Now is a great time to visit your local zoo. The crowds have mostly gone and kids are back in school. Next month the Central Park Zoo will be holding the first of three photo opportunities for animal and camera lovers. The sky is bluer, the crocus’ have bloomed, the daffodils are peeking their heads through winter’s soil and there is a general feeling that spring is in the air. Come visit.

There are few things as much fun as watching zoo animals step foot on newly fallen snow. We were at the Central Park Zoo the Monday after the big blizzard to witness this joy. Our Breakfast with the Birds class that was scheduled for Blizzard Sunday has been rescheduled for next Sunday, Feb 7th from 8:30 to 10:30. There are a few slots still available. Come join the fun. The Central Park Zoo has been my home base for the past 25 years. I never tire of the collection of beautiful animals, the landscape, the NYC backdrop, or the variety of visitors, happy faces and delighted children. Today’s montage features just a small sampling of the collection. I love snow days. We did not get the predicted amount of snow but we got enough to allow the Central Park Zoo animals to really enjoy themselves. (Me too). Here’s a a fun trip down memory lane. Zoe, at three years old, enjoyed her first snow at the Central Park Zoo on December 20, 2009.
