This winter has thus far been a bust in NYC. I know it has been hard in other places that normally do not get snow but for us…meh. I do not drive and do not have to shovel, so for me, the snow is an opportunity to simply admire nature and take lots of photos of beautiful animals at the Central Park Zoo. I searched my photo archives for some of my favorite snow photos. I enjoyed my trip down memory lane and hope you do too.

Happy Valentine’s Day (two days early). Lots of snuggling, kanoodling, breeding and nesting going on all over the animal world. Smooches to you all!

It has been almost one year since I visited the delightful 18 acre Queens Zoo. My goal was to see their adorable eight month old Andean bear cubs. I was not disappointed. The cubs were active until late morning. They got tired pretty much the same time that I did. I was charmed by the noisy but beautiful thick-billed parrots, lynx, pumas, elk, sea lions, bison, family farm and of course their pair of pudu. I encourage you to visit while these cubs are still young. You too can be Queen (or King) for a day.

It is Super Bowl Sunday once again. Thought I would salute all sorts of balls as they are used enrichment and fun in zoos and in my home. Enjoy some fun photos this super Sunday and may your team win. That said – I am more interested in the kitten and puppy bowls.

There is something special about the first real snow fall of the season. Friday’s NYC winter wonderland only lasted a few short hours but it blanketed the city with a pristine, fluffy, white covering. I salute all of the people who have to keep the city running during this type of weather. Me? I do not drive nor do I have to shovel and I take mass transit. So I grabbed my camera and headed to my home base, the Central Park Zoo. It has been about two months since I posted CPZ photos. Hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed taking them.

My October obsession with all things bats and pumpkins has come to an end with last Sunday’s adult photo session at the Central Park Zoo. Fun and enrichment was had by all species. I usually post something about our having to turn the clocks today as Daylight Savings Time ends. If you enjoyed those posts – here is the one from last year. Enjoy that extra hour of sleep.

Spring arrived in NYC to the delight of millions this week. Friday was a record breaking 75 degrees. It felt really good. I captured some of our beautiful animals as I walked about my home base, the Central Park Zoo. I hesitated to buy some plants for my patio as the warning about frosts happening in the next few weeks is still out there. Keep washing those hands and I hope when it is your turn you will get vaccinated. A Zissen Pesach (Happy Passover) to one and all. Enjoy!

This week’s NYC two-day weather event brought enough snow to make this month the eighth snowiest February on record. We are expecting more snow tomorrow too. As I have stated before, I do not drive and do not have to shovel, so for me, the snow is an opportunity to admire nature and take lots of photos of beautiful animals at the Central Park Zoo. Enjoy these ‘Best in Snow’ beauties.

We had about eight to 10 inches of snow fall in Central Park on Wednesday and Thursday. I LOVE snow days mostly because I do not have to shovel nor do I drive. It is a great opportunity to take photos of beautiful animals enjoying the cold weather. I admit that after four hours of picture taking I was very cold and a bit achy but it was all worth it. Enjoy these photos and come visit us at the zoo. You will need a timed ticket but it is worth it to make a plan. Stay safe, wash those hands and socially distance please. There is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Happy unusual spring to all of you. Hope springs eternal was coined by Alexander Pope in An Essay on Man in 1732 and quickly became proverbial. If you are like me, you are hunkering down, socially distancing, washing your hands and making a list of things you definitely, positively will do during this pause in all of our lives while we combat COVID19. Since I am committed to making a photo montage each Sunday (I have considered it a creative challenge for the past 17 years) I was stumped as to what to post this morning. How many photos of my three cats and my dog do you really want to see?I decided that we all need to smile and nothing makes me smile more than baby animals. All of these adorable baby photos were taken at my home base, the Central Park Zoo over the years. Once again – a tremendous salute to all of the people who are at the zoo taking care of our beautiful collection of animals and taking care of the facility and keeping it secure. I look forward to coming back soon.
