This winter has thus far been a bust in NYC. I know it has been hard in other places that normally do not get snow but for us…meh. I do not drive and do not have to shovel, so for me, the snow is an opportunity to simply admire nature and take lots of photos of beautiful animals at the Central Park Zoo. I searched my photo archives for some of my favorite snow photos. I enjoyed my trip down memory lane and hope you do too.

September was the 25th anniversary of the opening of the Tisch Children’s Zoo as an addition to the Central Park Zoo. The zoo was designed especially for children age 6 and under, allowing little animal lovers to meet gentle creatures up close. The “Enchanted Forest” features a petting zoo with goats, sheep and a cow that the kids can feed. I remember opening day very well and it is still one of my favorite spots at the zoo. I dedicate today’s montage to many of our beloved Tisch animals both past and present. Enjoy this trip down memory lane with some of our favorite animals such as Othello, Otis and Oliver, Beet, Turnip, Sid, Frankie and Milo, Curly, Abe, Spot, Major Mitchell’s and the Kookaburras. Want to visit Tisch? Come to my photo session at the Central Park Zoo. It is being held on Sunday October 23rd and you can sign up here. https://centralparkzoo.com/learn/adults/adult-programs.

There is something special about the first real snow fall of the season. Friday’s NYC winter wonderland only lasted a few short hours but it blanketed the city with a pristine, fluffy, white covering. I salute all of the people who have to keep the city running during this type of weather. Me? I do not drive nor do I have to shovel and I take mass transit. So I grabbed my camera and headed to my home base, the Central Park Zoo. It has been about two months since I posted CPZ photos. Hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed taking them.

My October obsession with all things bats and pumpkins has come to an end with last Sunday’s adult photo session at the Central Park Zoo. Fun and enrichment was had by all species. I usually post something about our having to turn the clocks today as Daylight Savings Time ends. If you enjoyed those posts – here is the one from last year. Enjoy that extra hour of sleep.

This week’s NYC two-day weather event brought enough snow to make this month the eighth snowiest February on record. We are expecting more snow tomorrow too. As I have stated before, I do not drive and do not have to shovel, so for me, the snow is an opportunity to admire nature and take lots of photos of beautiful animals at the Central Park Zoo. Enjoy these ‘Best in Snow’ beauties.

We had about eight to 10 inches of snow fall in Central Park on Wednesday and Thursday. I LOVE snow days mostly because I do not have to shovel nor do I drive. It is a great opportunity to take photos of beautiful animals enjoying the cold weather. I admit that after four hours of picture taking I was very cold and a bit achy but it was all worth it. Enjoy these photos and come visit us at the zoo. You will need a timed ticket but it is worth it to make a plan. Stay safe, wash those hands and socially distance please. There is a light at the end of the tunnel.

It is not a secret that I love this time of year. I like the crisp, clear air, the light and of course the changing leaves. Today’s salute to fall includes photos from my home base, the Central Park Zoo and photos from Southwick’s Zoo in Mendon, MA. My annual October visit to New England was cancelled this year due to COVID19 so these are photos both from past visits and newer photos from the Central Park Zoo. Please remember to wear your mask, wash your hands and socially distance.

It is day 191 for me being home during COVID19. Today I  address the changing upcoming season. Our shadows get longer as we head towards fall and winter. I thought you might enjoy seeing some shade being thrown by some of our zoo friends. I know it is not the contemporary meaning of ‘throwing shade’ but it did make me laugh. Stay safe, avoid crowds and wear a mask please. This Sunday’s photo montage is dedicated to the one and only RBG. At the bottom of today’s photos please note the dedicated chair in RBG’s name at our mutual high school auditorium. Brooklyn’s best – James Madison High School.
