Still no sign of snow in NYC this winter but the temperate animals are loving the chilly air and blue skies. Next Sunday is our Breakfast with the Birds Photo class and there are a few spots left. Some of these amazingly beautiful birds featured today can be seen in our tropical rain forest where the class is held. Sign up here.

This is the penultimate photo montage for 2015 and I spotlight my home base, the Central Park Zoo. I have shared 86 photo montages with you this year and I thank you for coming along for the ride. Next Sunday will feature my standard ‘end of the year’ pics. Your comments (both on the ‘while at the zoo’ website and to me personally are most appreciated. Here’s hoping you stick round for whatever 2016 brings us.

The last colorful gasp of fall is in the air. The Central Park Zoo‘s temperate animals are more active, the crowds are thinner and it is a great time to visit the zoo. The Central Park Zoo has been my home base for the past 25 years. I never tire of the collection of beautiful animals, the landscape, the NYC backdrop, or the variety of visitors, happy faces and delighted children. Today’s montage features just a small sampling of the collection. Imagine if you will, some of these animals surrounded by carved pumpkins, filled with fun enrichment, during my Fall photo workshop on October 25th from 8:30 to 10:30. To register for the fun, sign up here.

Yes, it is still chilly in NYC but spring has definitely sprung with magnolias, forsythia, blue bells, hellebores, budding crab apples, cherry blossoms and more. The Central Park Zoo sheep have been sheared, the school groups enjoy the zoo on their outings and in general – it is good to be alive.
We embark on our Texas 2015 Zoocation next week. Looking forward to six new zoos and an aquarium and hopefully meeting new friends along the way.

I love snow days. We did not get the predicted amount of snow but we got enough to allow the Central Park Zoo animals to really enjoy themselves. (Me too). Here’s a a fun trip down memory lane. Zoe, at three years old, enjoyed her first snow at the Central Park Zoo on December 20, 2009.

The winter presses on – with over 56 inches of snow in NYC in 2014. I am not sure how many more Sunday montage titles I can use – maybe Snowmageddon is next. The Central Park Zoo animals (especially the snow leopards, snow monkeys and red pandas) are my snow muses. Also watch a lovely video that my friend and Zoo Guide Wendy Walters made of our adorable cubs as they romped in the snow. A shout out to Wendy for deleting the sound of my clicking camera while she was filming.
If you enjoy my weekly photos, how about signing up for my next Central Park Zoo Photography Workshop on Sunday, March 9, from 8:30 to 10:30. Experience breakfast and a photo shoot with our Tropical Birds and maybe we will be lucky and there will still be some opportunities for snow photos too.

While at the Prospect Park Zoo we were treated to many wonderful sights. The two adorable baby boy Hamadryas baboons, born July 23 and 28, were a special treat. Mother’s Kaia and Rebecca were attentive and father Bole seemed very proud. The zoo is celebrating the arrival of the new baby baboons by partnering with Heart of Brooklyn by offering New Yorkers an opportunity to help name them. Starting Tuesday, Aug. 31, everyone can submit their suggestions at ProspectParkZoo.com.
We also got to meet Dixie, river otter Ogie’s new mate, new Pirahna, Rock Wallaby as well as many other fabulous faces. If you want to view these photos larger, go here.
Watch the little baboons in all their cuteness here:
