In anticipation of this week’s St Patrick’s Day celebrations I thought gathering photos of ‘green’ animals might be fun. All of today’s photos are from the Central Park Zoo except for the bottom photo which is of green iguanas at the Prospect Park Zoo. And speaking of green animals, Kermit said it best: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpiIWMWWVco

Every once in awhile I break from the usual Sunday zoo photos. We went up to the NY Botanical Garden in the Bronx to see the Orchid Show: Thailand. It is an enormous exhibition filled with color, light, shadow, shape, sounds and smells. It is open through April 9th and I highly recommend a visit.

While there was still snow on the ground I recently paid a visit to the terrific Prospect Park Zoo. The zoo of my childhood keeps getting better and better.

All WCS zoos were closed on February 9th during the snowstorm. I was at the zoo bright and early the next day to catch our amazing collection as they emerged from their holding areas to see the freshly fallen snow. What fun.

Super Bowl Sunday is about new TV commercials, chicken wings, all sorts of munchies and a little bit of football. Thought I would share some beautiful animals enjoying their munchies, which I am sure are healthier than what you will be eating today.
And that is Jack (above) enjoying a pre-game football toy.
Year of the Rooster January 29, 2017

This Lunar New Year celebrates the Rooster. A year of the Rooster always comes after a Year of the Monkey and before Year of the Dog. If you were born in any of the following years, you are included in the Year of the Rooster – 1933, 1945, 1957, 1969, 1981, 1993 and 2005. I searched my archives and came up short on my rooster photos so I decided to stretch the theme a bit. The rooster is part of the group called Galliformes. ‘The Galliformes are an order of heavy-bodied ground-feeding birds that includes turkey, grouse, chicken, New World quail and Old World quail, ptarmigan, partridge, pheasant, junglefowl and the Cracidae. The name derives from “gallus”, Latin for “cock” or “rooster”. Enjoy this Lunar New Year and these amazing birds who are part of this group. Cock-a-doodle-doo!

This fun photo montage is one of my all time favorites. Coincidentally, I first posted it three years ago today. I am also pleased to report that I am returning to the Central Park Zoo this week with camera in hand. Thank you for all of your kind words about my knee surgery and recovery during these past nine weeks.

While recovering from knee replacement surgery (ouch) I continue to recycle some of my older Sunday photo montages until I am back in camera ready action. NYC got about six inches of snow this weekend and it reminded of our first big snow back in 2014.
