The Prospect Park Zoo is the first zoo I ever visited – way, way, way back when I was a child growing up in Brooklyn.  It, thankfully, is not the same zoo that I remember but now a wonderful, ever growing collection of beautiful animals.  Southdown sheep, Fred and Ginger recently has a lamb,. There is a terrific new cow named Tetley, baby dwarf mongoose pups, an active frog collection, fabulous birds and of course, lots of primates.  Don’t forget to visit the walkabout to enjoy seeing the kangaroos, dingoes and very friendly Cape Barren Goose.

Brooklyn’s Prospect Park Zoo director Denise McClean introduces us to two pairs of dingoes now making their debut: Alkira and Binda, and Dacu and Cobar. Naturally, these four dogs, who hail from Down Under, have been given Aboriginal names. If you subscribe to my weekly Sunday photos (and get them in your in-box) you are probably not able to view my videos from your inbox image.  Just scroll up and click on the Blue link (which is the name of today’s send) and it will take you back to my ‘While at the Zoo’ website where you can watch today’s video selections below the dingo photo montage.

The Prospect Park Zoo’s four dingoes will only steal your heart – not your baby. Much has been made of the famous line “The dingo ate my baby” from the 1988 movie a ‘Cry in the Dark‘ starring Meryl Streep:

Paradies of this famous line are plentiful including this one from a Seinfeld episode:

A visit to Brooklyn’s Prospect Park Zoo is always fun.  Their collection of animals grows each month.  Check out the adorable baby golden lion tamarin born July 16th, to first time parents, Pablo and Teodora.  Pablo, was born in 2004 and came to The Prospect Park Zoo from Zoo Atlanta. Teodora, was born at the Baton Rouge Zoo in 2008. Their pairing was a recommended breeding match through the national Species Survival Plan, a program that works to ensure the genetic diversity of endangered species in zoos and aquariums.
The red-eye tree frog was awake and energetic, as were the two tufted deer juveniles, meerkats, hornbills, stork, sea lions and more.

No doubt you have heard the story of the Central Park Zoo‘s little bundle of joy born during the weekend of Hurricane Irene.  She has been named Irene Hope.  Check out her cuteness:

While at the Prospect Park Zoo we were treated to many wonderful sights.  The two adorable baby boy Hamadryas baboons, born July 23 and 28, were a special treat. Mother’s Kaia and Rebecca were attentive and father Bole seemed very proud.  The zoo is celebrating the arrival of the new baby baboons by partnering with Heart of Brooklyn by offering New Yorkers an opportunity to help name them. Starting Tuesday, Aug. 31, everyone can submit their suggestions at ProspectParkZoo.com.

We also got to meet Dixie, river otter Ogie’s new mate, new Pirahna, Rock Wallaby as well as many other fabulous faces.  If you want to view these photos larger, go here.
