It has been a couple of months of Sundays (and occasional Wednesdays) since I have featured my home base, the Central Park Zoo. There’s lots going on at NYC’s little gem of a zoo. We have three Swan Goose goslings, young Patagonian Cavy twins, baby Banded Mongooses and a young Victorian Crowned Pigeon. The usual cast of other wonderful animals includes Gus the polar bear, three acrobatic sea lions, April, Katy and Edith and the largest sea duck collection in a zoo in North America. A visit to Brooklyn’s Prospect Park Zoo is always fun. Their collection of animals grows each month. Check out the adorable baby golden lion tamarin born July 16th, to first time parents, Pablo and Teodora. Pablo, was born in 2004 and came to The Prospect Park Zoo from Zoo Atlanta. Teodora, was born at the Baton Rouge Zoo in 2008. Their pairing was a recommended breeding match through the national Species Survival Plan, a program that works to ensure the genetic diversity of endangered species in zoos and aquariums.
The red-eye tree frog was awake and energetic, as were the two tufted deer juveniles, meerkats, hornbills, stork, sea lions and more.
No doubt you have heard the story of the Central Park Zoo‘s little bundle of joy born during the weekend of Hurricane Irene. She has been named Irene Hope. Check out her cuteness:

Introducing my namesakes, Lobo, Zev and Wolfie, three adorable four month old baby Mountain Coatis, who can now be seen upstairs in the Tropic Zone Building at the Central Park Zoo. I might be a bit biased, but I think these three brothers are the cutest things at the zoo. Their neighbors, the Banded Mongoose and the Dwarf Mongoose have been checking them out. There is lots to see at the Central Park Zoo – come visit. Don’t forget to click on the link below the photos to see my short video of the brothers.

We are enduring those dog days of August. It is hot, sticky and while at the zoo you can easily see both the residents and the visitors catching a big yawn every now and then. And yes, that is my dog Benny, caught in the act of yawning too. If you want to see these images larger, go here.
