Went to DC last month to visit good friends. While there we visited the newly opened and renovated Air and Space Museum. It was very impressive. It is difficult to believe that the Wright Bothers invented the first airplane a little over 120 years ago and how much has been accomplished since then. The future seems boundless. There’s lots to see in this massive space (which is now only half open) but we spent most of our time viewing the first moon landing and examining their gear, their supplies, their food and medications. Timed tickets are required but it is free. Highly recommend.

I took a three day vacation to visit good friends in Washington, DC this past week. It is a great sightseeing town and even better when friends live there. We visited the always active National Zoo https: especially to see their brand new Bird House. It did not disappoint. Well lit and well designed with a very up close and personal experience with their exhibit birds. The huge outdoor aviary is not finished yet but we will surely visit again when it is completed. Also wanted to see their two new Andean bear cubs but sadly when we got to their habitat the cubs were not outside. Sigh. Enjoy my photos and see your tax dollars at work.

I assure you we were most definitely entertained by this fun exhibit at the National Museum of American History On my recent visit to DC we were fortunate to be there on opening day. ‘Through the National Museum of American History’s extraordinary collection of theater, music, sports, movie and television objects, the exhibition Entertainment Nation will feature a powerful, ever-changing selection of objects and interactive experiences. Through the objects and their stories, the exhibition will explore how, for over 150 years, entertainment has provided a forum for important national conversations about who we are, and who we want to be’. The museum has 1.8 million objects that document our culture. Next time you are in DC I encourage you to visit. It is lots of fun and filled with nostalgia.

This photo folder has been on my desktop since January of 2014. Not sure why I decided today would be a good time to post this photos…but here they are. All I remember about our day at the Library of Congress was that it was a great tour with truly interesting facts. Sadly I remember nothing that I learned that day. Sigh. However – thanks to the internet I was able to link some fascinating info for you here and here. That same trip we also went to the National Zoo to see baby panda Bao Bao. For those that need an animal fix each Sunday here is the link to that photo montage.

Post zoocation 2018 we took a short trip south to Washington DC. So much to see and do in that town but we always make time to visit the National Zoo. Enjoy!

Washington is a great place to visit and no visit is complete without dropping by the Smithsonian’s National Zoo. The grounds open at 8AM and getting there early is a good idea. We were able to spend quality time admiring their four giant pandas – Tian Tian (male, age 19), Mei Xiang (female, age 18), Bao Bao (female, almost 3) and little Bei Bei (male, almost one year old). We learned their orangutan is pregnant and due in the fall and we missed the birth of their first sea lion pup in 32 years by only one day (darn it). It was a fun visit and a hearty shout out to Keeper Ashton for spending a generous amount of time with us. We will be back.

A quick trip to DC to visit recently transplanted friends would not be complete without seeing the National Zoo’s eight month old black and white panda, Bao Bao. Our timing was perfect. We got to spend quality morning time with Bao Bao before she climbed up into a tree for a long nap. I am a sucker for baby animals and there is something even more special about a baby panda.
