Happy Mother’s Day to all of the mothers, caregivers, nurturers, pamperers, surrogates and loving coddlers out there. Our mother, Lillian Wolfe, is long gone, but her advice, warnings and general ‘Lili-isms’ live on in our daily lives. She taught us to laugh at life, to think, to question authority, to march, to protest – to fight the good fight. She also gave us our moral compass – one glance from Lillian told us instantly whether our behavior was acceptable or not – and I got a lot of glances. My sister Terry and I remember many childhood events differently but we both agree that our mother was a pistol. Here’s to Lillian Wolfe – she formed and informed what we are today.

Winter gave us one last gasp of cold, wind and snow this week. The animals at the Central Park Zoo did not mind at all. Come visit before it all melts away.

In anticipation of this week’s St Patrick’s Day celebrations I thought gathering photos of ‘green’ animals might be fun. All of today’s photos are from the Central Park Zoo except for the bottom photo which is of green iguanas at the Prospect Park Zoo. And speaking of green animals, Kermit said it best: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpiIWMWWVco

While there was still snow on the ground I recently paid a visit to the terrific Prospect Park Zoo. The zoo of my childhood keeps getting better and better.

All WCS zoos were closed on February 9th during the snowstorm. I was at the zoo bright and early the next day to catch our amazing collection as they emerged from their holding areas to see the freshly fallen snow. What fun.

Super Bowl Sunday is about new TV commercials, chicken wings, all sorts of munchies and a little bit of football. Thought I would share some beautiful animals enjoying their munchies, which I am sure are healthier than what you will be eating today.
And that is Jack (above) enjoying a pre-game football toy.

This fun photo montage is one of my all time favorites. Coincidentally, I first posted it three years ago today. I am also pleased to report that I am returning to the Central Park Zoo this week with camera in hand. Thank you for all of your kind words about my knee surgery and recovery during these past nine weeks.
