As my knee continues to heal I am featuring a photo montage from 2013. Since we all had full bellies this week I wanted to share some of the tasty food enrichment zoo animals receive. Hope everyone had a very happy and tasty holiday.

While recovering from knee replacement surgery (ouch) I decided to recycle some of my older Sunday photo montages until I am back in camera ready action. Enjoy these shots from 2013 and hope to see you soon with new montages.

Zoo # 2 on our New England mini-zoocation was Providence, Rhode Island’s Roger Williams Park Zoo. It has been a very long time since I had been to this zoo. It was the zoo of my RISD college days, where as young, art student, I would go to draw their amazing animals. Much has changed and it was fun to be back. They have a fabulous Jack-O-Lantern spectacular each year and we were lucky to be able to get to see it. A special shout out to PJ Jones, Animal Care Manager and Director Jeremy Goodman, DVM for taking such good care of us.

For those that missed last week’s While at the Zoo I have a good excuse. I was in New England on my annual mini-zoocation to visit great friends, a few zoos and see those gorgeous New England fall leaves. Two out of three ain’t bad. The leaves were past peak but the zoos were terrific as was seeing my friends. Happy NYC Marathon to all (especially my three friends who are participating – go Alison, Tara and Lionel).

Yesterday’s photo class at the Central Park Zoo turned out to be great fun despite the ‘iffy’ weather. Our hearty band of photographers were enriched by our pumpkin dsplay as much as our animals. Fun for all. Did I mention today is my birthday?

It is hard to believe that summer is over. Now is a great time to visit your local zoo. The crowds have mostly gone and kids are back in school. Next month the Central Park Zoo will be holding the first of three photo opportunities for animal and camera lovers. First up is – Zoo Views: Animals in Autumn – Saturday, October 22 from 8:30 to 10:30. Click here and sign up. It will be fun. Hope to see you there.

Our whirlwind visit to Michigan, Indiana and Ohio winds up at the Toledo Zoo where several of my good friends now work. It is always fun to visit this terrific zoo, share new adventures and see an amazing collection. This has been a great end of summer mini-zoocation.
