I love the holidays (actually any holiday that warrants the wearing of a hat for Benny and the cats). This year’s making of my annual holiday card was lots of fun (for all involved). Along with the final product, I thought you might enjoy seeing some of the photos that did not make the cut for this year’s card. A special shout out to Benny the dog, Madison the elder cat and the ever delightful one year olds, Audrey and Roberta. And a very happy holiday season to all of you. Salud!

Zoo photography is both challenging and fun. They say the eyes are the window to the soul – I don’t know about that – but I do know if you can capture a gorgeous creature looking back at you – it is a great photo moment. A special connection is made between the subject and the viewer. Today’s montage is devoted to those moments.

Thanksgiving is all about food, fun, family, friends and giving thanks. I interrupt the usual Sunday Zoo photos to bring you photos from the 2014 US Open where I am enjoying a 10 day stint. The action is great, the sun is hot, and it is a fun change of pace. And yes, that’s my dog, Benny, enjoying his US Open tennis ball at home.
For all of those camera enthusiasts out there, I’ll be running a Fall Foliage photography workshop at the Central Park Zoo on October 19 from 8:30 to 10:30. I will arrange some special pumpkin and other activities so you can get great animal shots. Here is a link to last year’s photos from the same event

For the past eight years I have been featuring Benny the dog on our annual holiday card. With the addition of kittens Audrey and Roberta as the newest members of Casa Lobo, I attempted a group photo. Many hats, bow ties and laughs later I present this year’s holiday card and some outtakes from our photo session. Hope you enjoy their antics and wishing everyone a very happy holiday season.

Madison Square Park is the park where Benny, my dog, and I spend lots of time. Benny’s time is spent sniffing and dreaming of catching that elusive squirrel and I daydream, reflect, chat with neighbors, other dog walkers, and strangers. Beginning in 1912, Madison Square Park was home to the first public holiday tree in the nation. Madison Square Park was home to the torch of the Statue of Liberty for six years to raise funds for the completion of the statue and its pedestal. There is also a suggestion that the southwest corner of Madison Square Park is where America’s pastime, baseball, got its mid-19th century start.game.. Whatever the history – enjoy today’s reflections.

Meet my two new kittens – Audrey and Roberta. They are seven weeks old and have been exploring every nook and cranny in my home. They are curious about Benny the dog (he seems to like them a lot) and rightfully cautious about Madison the cat. They are endlessly entertaining. Enjoy!
