Tonight is first night of Hanukkah and I thought I wold share some of my Hanukah photos over the years. Some of you might remember doggies Sweet Benny and One-eyed Jack and of course grumpy Madison the cat who have all crossed that rainbow bridge. Our present gang includes Audrey, Roberta and Pete the cats with Mr. Pepe the dog. No animal was singed, harmed or abused in any way in the making of these photos – treats were involved. Hanukkah Sameach!

Raise your hand if you think this summer has been stupid hot. (Both my hands are raised). The dog days of summer are those hot and sultry days we are now experiencing. We have officially just ended that period called the dog days of summer— it is that time in August when the humidity is so high that you could cut the air with a knife. This year those 40 days happened between Thu, Jul 3, 2025 – Mon, Aug 11, 2025. I don’t think we are getting out of this weather pattern soon anytime soon. It is historically the period following the heliacal rising of the star system Sirius, which Hellenistic astrology connected with heat, drought, sudden thunderstorms, lethargy, fever, mad dogs, bad luck and curly hair. They are now taken to be the hottest, most uncomfortable part of summer in the Northern Hemisphere. So I have chosen to share my dogs of summer (both past and present), along with some of my cats to honor this dreaded season. I salute Sweet Benny, One-eyed Jack, Mr Pepe, and some of their walking buddies including Fuego, Conrad, Ivy and Max. Included are my present cats, Roberta, Audrey and Pete. We all await those falling leaves and pumpkins.

An October surprise for you. We love Halloween here at Casa Lobo and have been celebrating it since the beginning of time. Here is a photo montage of my extremely wonderful pets over the years. No animal was harmed in the making of these photos. Lots of treats were had by all. A shout out to Madison, Sweet Benny, One-eyed Jack, Audrey, Roberta, Pete and of course, the very photogenic Mr. Pepe.

All I can say about this wonderful exhibit ‘Dog Days of Summer‘ at the Timothy Taylor Gallery is it was a-DOG-able! Artists usually create alone and often use a Muse for artistic inspiration. One’s dog (or cat, bird, etc) can easily fill that need. Here is an article that features some of the greats with their companion Muses. This exhibit features 60 artists’ dogs. I have taken the liberty of adding four of my own works that have been inspired by my dogs. The very top picture is of Jack (before he became One-eyed Jack) and the bottom three pieces are of Mr. Pepe (my present Muse), sweet Benny and Donald (my very first dog). This exhibit is on through August 24th but the gallery has some weird hours in August so please check with them if you want to go. Woof!

Tonight is the first of eight nights of Hanukkah. It isn’t really an important holiday on the Jewish calendar but since it falls so close to Christmas it has become more about merchandise (and of course food). We celebrate just about everything here at Casa Lobo. Here are some fun photos from the past and present. A shout out to my very cooperative pets over the years – Madison, Benny, One-eyed Jack, Roberta, Audrey Pete and of course, Mr. Pepe. Let’s all add a ‘J’ to that Oy!

Even though this is day 170 for me being home during COVID19 birthday celebrations must and should go on. Today is seven years since Audrey and Roberta came to live at Casa Lobo. They experienced different house mates over the years starting with Madison the Grumpy Cat and Benny the dog. Then came Jack the one-eyed dog, then Pete the cat and now of course, Mr Pepe the dog. They have gotten along with all and have brought great joy into my house. Here’s to many more years of fun with these two cats. They have their own facebook page with over 900 fans. Today is a big day in NYC. The 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots is being celebrated with a larger than ever parade down Fifth Avenue. It is going to be loud and proud. Today’s salute features photos from previous Pride parades as seen from my small perch at Casa Lobo. So much progress has been made but more needs to be done. Have fun and be safe. The top photo is One-eyed Jack from last years festivities. That little guy crossed over the rainbow bridge last November. Miss him every day.

It is with a heavy, broken heart that I tell you One-eyed Jack crossed the Rainbow Bridge this week. His health had taken a downward spiral in the past few months and it was time. I rescued Jack as a senior dog from Best Friends about two and a half years ago. He brought so much joy to my life. He was friendly with everyone. He loved kids, other dogs, street vendors, my apartment building staff and neighbors. Not a walk went by that someone did not come up to us to chat. Many New Yorkers would yell out ‘WISHBONE’ when they saw us (you might have to google that one). New Yorkers have a soft spot in their hearts for dogs, especially adorable one-eyed dogs. The one flaw he had was his insistence upon rising before daylight. We would traipse out into the dark of night and almost had the city to ourselves. Jack also adored my two cats, Audrey and Roberta and they adored him. I created a facebook page for them and we garnered close to 500 fans most who did not know me, but fell in love with Audrey, Roberta and One-eyed Jack. The house seems a lot emptier now and it will take awhile for a new normal to emerge. I have already been asked if I am going to get another dog. It is too soon to even contemplate that right now but if I do – I will adopt another senior dog as they need homes, aren’t nearly as cute as puppies but it is the right thing to do. Thank you all for caring about One-eyed Jack. It means a lot to me.
Walks with Jack February 25, 2018

I have been recuperating from shoulder replacement surgery these past few weeks with the help of some amazing friends and family. The biggest restriction I have is not being able to walk One-eyed Jack the dog. My good friend and zoocation buddy, Mary Schwalm helped out for the first 10 days. While dog walking, cat sitting, cooking, shopping and general nursing she managed to create a fun video about her ‘walks with Jack.’ Volume up and enjoy!
