Zoo #5 on our summer zoocation was the Seneca Park  Zoo Rochester NY. Their new ‘A Step Into Africa’ habitat was great for both photographers and non-camera carrying visitors alike. It is great to see chain-link fencing becoming a thing of the past. Even though it was a hot, hot day most of the animals were active and engaging.  It is always best to visit a zoo at the beginning or end of the day.

Zoo #4 on our summer zoocation was the Rosamond Gifford Zoo at Burnet Park, Syracuse, New York. We met some new zoo friends who generously shared some of their time with behind the scenes activities for us.  The collection of animals was great, especially the delightful spectacled bear brothers and young penguins. Enjoy!

Zoo #3 on our summer zoocation was the Utica Zoo in Utica, New York.  A mid-afternoon arrival is never the best for a zoo visit but we did find some beautiful animals who perked up when they saw us.  Getting to the zoo along New York’s Blue Highways, rather than major roadways, was also a delight.

Zoo #2 on our summer zoocation was  The New York State Zoo at Thompson Park in Watertown, NY. Zoo news promised us wolf pups, so off we drove.  We got a little peek at a few of them through cyclone fencing and deep wooded cover.  I cannot say that I blame the little pups for taking naps — but we sure wanted to see them frolicking. Oh well – it was a nice small zoo with some active animals. Enjoy.

June is busting out all over the Central Park Zoo. There’s so much to enjoy when you plan a day at the zoo. Along with our fabulous collection of penguins, puffins, sea ducks, black and white ruffed lemurs, red pandas and of course, Gus, our polar bear we now have a collection of bugs!

Next time you visit the Central Park Zoo, or any zoo, take some time to really observe the residents. The animals express themselves in mostly non-verbal ways.  Today’s photo montage features leaps, wing spreads and facial expressions that made me smile. Enjoy! Also watch one of my favorite animals in the tropic building at the Central Park Zoo. I have nicknamed this Prehensile-tailed Skink, Leon. May is a glorious month.  The recent rains have made the Central Park Zoo‘s gardens even more spectacular.  Come visit and see our red pandas, snow leopards, sea lions, lemurs, white-naped cranes, amazing tropical rain forest, our two new baby goats, Marble and Mica and much, much more. Here is special salute to Scooter (and her pals, April and Clarisse) featured in my June, 2007 video of Central Park Zoo’s California sea lions.  We will all miss Scooter. She was a very special sea lion.
