Even though this is day 170 for me being home during COVID19 birthday celebrations must and should go on. Today is seven years since Audrey and Roberta came to live at Casa Lobo. They experienced different house mates over the years starting with Madison the Grumpy Cat and Benny the dog. Then came Jack the one-eyed dog, then Pete the cat and now of course, Mr Pepe the dog. They have gotten along with all and have brought great joy into my house. Here’s to many more years of fun with these two cats. They have their own facebook page with over 900 fans.  This is day 163 for me staying home during the COVID19 pandemic. Today I continue with my salute to children’s games with Go Fish! It’s a card game that even I played as a kid. Today’s compilation of photos come from aquariums we have visited all over this country. I know that jellyfish aren’t really fish – but they are pretty – so I included them. Stay safe, stay healthy and wear your mask please.

This is day 149 for me being home during COVID19. Happy to continue with the theme of childrens’ games and songs. Today we salute the Mustelidae, a large family of carnivorous mammals including the weasel, badger, otter, ferret, marten, tayra, sable and wolverines. “Pop! Goes the Weasel” is an English nursery rhyme and singing game. It is often used in Jack in the box toys. For those that like to sing along…https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sazc2J5MO7M

This is day 142 for me being home during COVID19. At my good pal Mary Schwalm’s request I am continuing with my theme of children’s games. Since Mary’s favorite zoo animal is the hippo – here we go.  Hungry Hungry Hippos is a table top game for 2–4 players. The idea for the game was published in 1967 by toy inventor Fred Kroll and it was introduced in 1978. The objective of the game is for each player to collect as many marbles as possible with their ‘hippo.’ These fun photos were taken at the Toledo Zoo (thanks Jeff), Sedgwick County Zoo and the Dickerson Park Zoo (thanks Katniss)). The two photos where both Mary and I are feeding the hippo is actually Henry, little Fiona’s father, before he moved to Cincinnati. RIP Henry. You were an amazing hippo. Stay safe please and wear a mask.

It is day 135 for me staying home during COVID19. I had a knee replacement on June 30. It seemed like a good time to do it since I needed it and was staying home anyway. I salute our dedicated zookeepers as we just celebrated National Zookeeper’s week. Zookeeper’s faces may change from year to year but the hard work, resourcefulness and commitment remain the same. I salute you all and especially the staff at my home base, the Central Park Zoo. You allow me to take your photos while you perform your tasks with good humor and I appreciate that. Hope to see you all soon. Stay Safe please and wear a mask.

It is day 116 for staying home during the COVID19 pandemic for us. This was a fun montage to create. I didn’t realize how many animals could be included in this red, white and blue themed photo montage. Most of the animals depicted were taken at my home base, the Central Park Zoo. Obvious exclusions are the giant panda, cassowary (above) and the arctic fox (although we used to house that species) and the red-eyed tree frog (taken at the Prospect Park Zoo). Hope you all had a very safe and happy Fourth of July. Wear those masks please.

This is day 109 for me being home during the COVID19 pandemic. Still hoping that you are all staying safe and wearing your masks. My goal each week during the pandemic is to give you a few smiles. Nothing makes me smile more than otters. They are active, fun and most of all – adorable. This week’s selection of photos come from my previous visits to the Prospect Park Zoo, Bronx Zoo, Potawatomi Zoo, Smithsonian’s National Zoo, Capron Park Zoo and the Woodland Park zoo. The animals featured are river otters and small-clawed otters. Hope they give you a little cheer. Stay healthy please.

This is day 102 for me being home during the COVID19 pandemic. Tomorrow NYC enters phase 2. Woot, woot! Outdoor dining, indoor shopping, haircuts and playgrounds reopen. Not sure I will be doing any of those – but we shall see. I do hope you have been staying healthy, safe and wearing your masks. Not only is today Father’s Day but it is the first day of summer and the longest day of the year. While most caregivers in the animal kingdom are mothers, there are some father’s who join in the role as caregiver. I salute all of those father’s out there in today’s photo montage. The photo above today’s salute is of my father and me. The photo was taken (circa) at the beginning of time.

This is day 95 for me being home during the COVID19 pandemic. NYC is now in phase 1 of reopening but since I am not in construction or manufacturing nothing has changed. Hope you all are being careful, staying healthy and wearing a mask. I decided to continue with the theme of games and so today I am featuring frogs in a salute to the 1981 arcade game called Frogger. I spy with my little eye, hide and seek and duck, duck goose were popular. Let’s see how you feel about frogs. GRIBBIT!
