It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of Mr. Pepe’s passing. We enjoyed 6.5 years of fun, goofy antics, costumes, special walks with friends and tolerating our three cats as room-mates. He had a series of issues in his declining health. Arthritis, cataracts, dementia, incontinence and more. We held on as long as we could but I knew the day was coming. Our 16 year old chihuahua was ready to cross that Rainbow Bridge. Not sure I believe in heaven or hell but I most definitely believe in that Rainbow Bridge that all of our companion animals get to cross. As he lay dying I named all of the friends he would meet as he crossed. In no particular order he will greet Madison the Elder cat, Sweet Benny the dog, One-eyed Jack, Binky, Chaplin, Sam, Scoop, Jr, Jpeg, Jazzie, Henri, Porkchop, Linda, Coco, Kaiya, Cloud, Sophie, my first dog, Donald, my first cat, Fang, Sugar, Pushkin, Buda, Finn, James and dozens of other wonderful companions. Hug your pet today for me please. It would be greatly appreciated if you made a donation to the Binky Foundation in Mr. Pepe’s name. He was a very good boy.

In October of 2001 the superintendent of my building called me up and asked if I wanted a cat. It seems that a kitten had walked into the lobby of my building and just sat down. I rushed downstairs and found a little bundle of fur. And that was that. Fast forward almost 17 years and Madison crossed that very crowded rainbow bridge this week. Truth be told, she was not a very nice cat. That was part of her charm. She harrumphed around the apartment, hissed at her roommates and generally had a bad attitude. All of those aforementioned things made me love her even more. When she came to live with us I had two other cats, whom she learned to hate. A few years later Benny the dog came to live with us. She was not fond of him either. She outlived those animals and then got to share her space with kitten sisters Audrey and Roberta and eventually Jack the one-eyed dog. She did not like any of them either. Do I miss this grumpy cat? You bet.

A recent visit to New England to see good friends brought us to the nearby Stone Zoo. A wonderful zoo surprise was seeing a five day old colobus monkey clinging to its mother. The donations to the Binky Foundation in Benny the dog’s memory keep on coming. Thanking you all so much for remembering my sweet little guy in this way.

My annual fall trip to see good friends in New England always includes a visit to Southwick’s Zoo . The autumn leaves, the chilly air and their wonderful collection made for a memorable visit.
Please visit the Binky Foundation’s site today to see the thoughtful and sweet Remembrance for my dear Benny the dog. Thank you to those that contributed to the site in his memory. Your generosity and kindness in remembering him with a donation to his (and my)
favorite animal foundation warmed my heart. He was a very good boy.
