The Museum of the Dog always has something interesting to see. Identity Restraint & the Art of the Dog Collar did not disappoint (although some of the collars were pretty scary.) Held in conjunction with the National Sporting Library and Museum in Middleburg, VA the exhibition brings together over 60 collars from the NSLM’s collection and 50 artworks belonging to the American Kennel Club and the AKC Museum of the Dog. The combination of the collars and artworks illustrates how they were used and evolved over several centuries. The basic design of the collar has not changed since the time of ancient Mesopotamia but variations on the collar, specifically ornamentation and style, reflect the values of the various world cultures that kept dogs. These subtle, and sometimes not so subtle, alterations to the central design can be quite telling in the role dogs played and how they were regarded in different time periods and cultures. For a brief history of the dog collar click here. This exhibit is on through September 3rd. Oh – by the way…the cutie pictured on top is my little guy, Mr. Pepe, wearing his restraint halter. Who’s a good boy?

Holiday time is always fun at my house. We celebrate most holidays (especially the ones that demand we wear a hat). My little gang of critters (past and present) are all good sports and since today is Christmas we would like to share some of these fun moments with you. Wishing you all a very merry and a happy. Cheers!

Tonight is the first of eight nights of Hanukkah. It isn’t really an important holiday on the Jewish calendar but since it falls so close to Christmas it has become more about merchandise (and of course food). We celebrate just about everything here at Casa Lobo. Here are some fun photos from the past and present. A shout out to my very cooperative pets over the years – Madison, Benny, One-eyed Jack, Roberta, Audrey Pete and of course, Mr. Pepe. Let’s all add a ‘J’ to that Oy!

It is Super Bowl Sunday once again. Thought I would salute all sorts of balls as they are used enrichment and fun in zoos and in my home. Enjoy some fun photos this super Sunday and may your team win. That said – I am more interested in the kitten and puppy bowls.

I hope your Christmas holiday was festive and safe. Today I am featuring the fun we have had over the years during Christmas. Some of you might recognize the gang that has already crossed that Rainbow Bridge – Madison the Elder cat, Benny and One-eyed Jack the dogs. Looking at these old photos always makes me smile. Thank you for following my Sunday blog. The Gang at Casa Lobo (Audrey, Roberta, Pete and Mr Pepe the dog) join me in wishing you all of the best in the coming year. More fun in ’21.

This is day four of Hanukkah and I thought I wold share some of my Hanukah photos over the years. Some of you might remember doggies Benny and One-eyed Jack and of course grumpy Madison the cat who have all crossed that rainbow bridge. Our present gang includes Audrey, Roberta and Pete the cats with of course our newest arrival Mr. Pepe the dog. No animal was singed, harmed or abused in any way in the making of these photos – treats were involved. Family fun. Please continue to wear your masks, wash those hands and socially distant. The end of all of this madness is in sight.

I am quite sure that no one wants to add another hour to this horrific COVID19 year – yet here we are. The days seem shorter and most certainly darker. Here are a few tidbits about the history of why we change our clocks twice a year. My good friend Mary, who was raised in Arizona, hates when we change the clocks. Only Arizona and Hawaii stick with one time all year round. Did you know both China and India have only one time zone? I don’t have an opinion about changing the clocks – I just love clocks. I have more clocks in my house than I need but I like looking at them. And by the way – I am never late. Here’s a fun article about them and the man who changes some of the clocks in NYC. The photo of my dog, Mr. Pepe, above, in his Halloween outfits has nothing to do with Standard time other than I thought you might enjoy his outfits.

Even though this is day 170 for me being home during COVID19 birthday celebrations must and should go on. Today is seven years since Audrey and Roberta came to live at Casa Lobo. They experienced different house mates over the years starting with Madison the Grumpy Cat and Benny the dog. Then came Jack the one-eyed dog, then Pete the cat and now of course, Mr Pepe the dog. They have gotten along with all and have brought great joy into my house. Here’s to many more years of fun with these two cats. They have their own facebook page with over 900 fans.  It is definitely going to be challenge to come up with different topics for my Sunday photo blog while social distancing and quarantining during this COVID19 crazy time.Luckily I have my own little zoo here at home. Today’s montage features my cats Audrey, Roberta and Pete as they adjust to having nine pound Mr. Pepe around the house. Mr. Pepe has been with us for the past three months and all is hunky dory. The cats have learned to scramble when the tennis ball I throw to Mr Pepe comes their way. There is an understanding at meal times who gets fed first. There’s lots of sniffing and staring but by and large everybody is cool with this new living arrangement. Hope you are all safe and healthy.
