I admit it. One of my favorite days of the year at the Central Park Zoo is Pumpkin Sunday. ‘You get a pumpkin and you get a pumpkin and…’ Our photo workshop last Sunday was a big hit with some very happy photographers, enriched animals, delighted zookeepers and zoo visitors. This was the first in a series of three photography workshops. The next one features hearts, valentines and lots of love. You can sign up here if interested.

Zoo #4 on our Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas zoocation, the David Traylor Zoo was not on our original itinerary but what’s wrong with a three hour diversion to hit another zoo in Kansas? We went for it and were pleasantly surprised by what we found. The David Traylor Zoo is the smallest AZA accredited zoo in the nation and it is free. The zoo has nearly 400 specimens of birds, mammals and reptiles representing more than 80 species all exhibited in beautiful, natural habitats. The zoo also features exceptional botanical displays. Was it worth the three hour detour? You bet.

Last Sunday’s fun photo Valentine opportunity at the Central Park Zoo was wet, cold and windy but it did not deter our hearty group of wildlife photographers. Today’s montage includes photos from last Sunday and photos from a much sunnier experience back in 2016.

Yesterday’s photo class at the Central Park Zoo turned out to be great fun despite the ‘iffy’ weather. Our hearty band of photographers were enriched by our pumpkin dsplay as much as our animals. Fun for all. Did I mention today is my birthday?

There are few things as much fun as watching zoo animals step foot on newly fallen snow. We were at the Central Park Zoo the Monday after the big blizzard to witness this joy. Our Breakfast with the Birds class that was scheduled for Blizzard Sunday has been rescheduled for next Sunday, Feb 7th from 8:30 to 10:30. There are a few slots still available. Come join the fun. Still no sign of snow in NYC this winter but the temperate animals are loving the chilly air and blue skies. Next Sunday is our Breakfast with the Birds Photo class and there are a few spots left. Some of these amazingly beautiful birds featured today can be seen in our tropical rain forest where the class is held. Sign up here.
