We are off on zoocation for the next couple of weeks celebrating 15 years of zoocationing with a trip to the Pacific Northwest. Looking to reunite with some old friends and to make some new ones along the way. As we leave summer I salute the animal collection at my home base, the Central Park Zoo.

It has been three years since I ventured out to the Queens Zoo. My goal was to see the eight month old Andean (aka Spectacled) bear cubs Brienne and Benny. The female and male cubs were born in January to mother Nicole and father Bouba. My ultra long wait for the cubs to appear was worth the wait. They are pure joy and adorable. I encourage a visit before they grow up. Might I suggest you also visit the Queens Museum (a stone’s throw away from the zoo) and see their amazing NYC panorama. While I have your attention I wanted to give you a heads up about our Central Park Zoo Fall Photo Experience. It is ‘live’ on the WCS website now. The session which will feature pumpkins and is called Zoo Views: Animals in Autumn: Sun, Oct 27, 2019 8:30AM – 10:30AM. It is my favorite photo class and time of the year. Hope to see you in the fall.

The heat was surely on these last couple of weeks in NYC. It seemed to be a good idea to spend some of my time chilling with the penguins at the Central Park Zoo. Our zoo has four species of penguin – King, Gentoo, Macaroni and Chinstrap. The exhibit is chilly and fun. Come visit and stay cool with our fine feathered friends. Also wanted to give you a heads up about our Central Park Zoo Fall Photo Experience. It is ‘live’ on the WCS website now. Last Sunday’s photo enrichment session at the Central Park Zoo was lots of fun for both the animals and photographers. It was a glorious day. The sun was out, the temperature ideal and the animals all set to be enriched. A special shout out to our amazing zookeepers who created the enrichment items. Enjoy!

As most of you know, the Central Park Zoo is my home base. While fall is my favorite season I admit to being captivated with spring too. Our cool, rainy weather has made everything green and colorful. Today is our final zoo photo session of the season featuring flowers as animal enrichment. I am optimistic it will be a successful, fun visit for all. Photos, next week.
Aquarium of the Bay and Pier 39 April 28, 2019

While visiting family in San Rafael, CA a few weeks ago we decided to do some touristy things and had a blast. We headed to Pier 39 to watch the California sea lions that have taken over those piers since 1989 and then headed to the nearby Aquarium of the Bay. A good time was had by all.

It is really spring! Filled with flowers, great light and a zip in one’s step. Last Sunday’s Valentine Tails photo class was a big hit. Everyone had a good time, great photos were taken and most of all, the animals at the Central Park Zoo got terrific heart themed enrichment created by an amazing zoo keeper staff (special shout out to Nora and Tumeca). Despite the cold weather there were smiles all around. Enjoy today’s heartfelt photos and hopefully you will sign up for the last photo class of the season. As some of you know, Brooklyn’s Prospect Park Zoo was my childhood zoo and every time I return I get a flashback or two. This week’s visit was no different. I encourage a winter visit. Several new and exciting things to see including the fabulous Pallas Cats and Black-footed cats.

It has been about three months of Sundays since I last posted a ‘while at the zoo’ about my home base, the Central Park Zoo. If you haven’t been to our zoo in a while the winter is a great time to visit. The crowds are smaller, the tropic aviary is nice and warm and the temperate animals much more active. You can combine your next visit with our upcoming photo workshop. It is called Valentine Tails and will be from 8:30 to 10:30 on February 10, 2019 (think hearts.) The workshop is filling up fast.
