Most of us experienced bone chilling temperatures this week along with Thursday’s bomb cyclone snowstorm. The option of staying home eluded me and off I went to my home base, the Central Park Zoo. It was frigid, it was windy, it hurt – but worth it to watch the animals whose first names are ‘snow’ enjoy the storm. The top eight rows of photos depict our snow leopards and snow monkeys and were taken Thursday and the bottom five rows of photos are vintage 2014 pics. Special note to Central Park Zoo fans – the top photo is of our new male snow leopard named Kumush. If you are stuck inside in this frozen tundra of weather why not visit my youtube site. I haven’t uploaded a video in a very long time but there are 10 years of videos for you to enjoy. I am closing in on a million views.

Our recent visit to New Mexico included a visit to the wonderful 64 acre Albuquerque Zoo. A shout out to Karen and Keith for making our visit so very special. The zoo is beautiful and filled with a varied collection of amazing animals. They are in the midst of building a new penguin habitat that promises to be terrific. I will be back to see that when it is open next year.

I wanted to visit the Bronx Zoo one more time before the cold weather sets in. Winter visits are fun too but who knows when we will get snow this year? My visit proved great – highlighted by an adorable snow leopard cub, sea lion pup, growing tiger cubs, baby squirrel monkey, young gorillas and Angolan monkey and much more. I logged in at 7.5 miles but it was worth every step.

Couldn’t resist the play on words about Toledo in today’s title. I have made umpteen trips to Toledo to visit good friends who have relocated there in the past few years. Every visit gets better and better. The Toledo Zoo grows more expansively each year and it is always a fun and adventurous place to visit. A shout out to Jeff, Jason, John, Chuck, Karen, Juan, Baby Olive, Juba, Leela, Picasso and Zack for the fun and laughs. I will be back soon.

I love cats – both big and small. This week’s montage is dedicated to these gorgeous creatures. See if you can identify 14 out of the 37 cat species in the world.

We visited the Bronx Zoo about a month ago and were delighted to find so many babies. Included in these wonderful baby sightings were adorable bison, porcupine, tawny frogmouth, Inca tern, gaur, four Pere David fawns, baboon, ring-tailed lemur and the always charming young gorillas. It was a terrific visit. Go visit while they are still young and active.

It was a beautiful day with a sensational host. EVP Paul Grayson could not have been more hospitable, entertaining and gracious when we visited the Indianapolis Zoo on our Mini-Zoocation in early May. It is a big zoo with something for everyone. Meeting walrus’, rhinos, orangutans and dolphins up-close and personal were unforgettable experiences. Seeing their scarlet macaws free fly overhead throughout the day was also amazing. Thanks to Paul and an outstanding crew for this visit.
