The four California sea lions who live at the Central Park Zoo never cease to amaze. They flip, flap, flop and fly across the pool and into the air. Come watch April, Katie, Edith, little Charlie and of course their dazzling zookeepers daily during their feed and demonstration at 11:30, 1:30 and 3:30 each day.

I love cats – both big and small. This week’s montage is dedicated to these gorgeous creatures. See if you can identify 14 out of the 37 cat species in the world. If you scroll down to the bottom of today’s montage you can see my two cats, Audrey and Roberta, now a year old. Want to see them one year ago? Check them out here. If you are on facebook, you can ‘like’ Audrey and Roberta and join a growing list of fans who get one photo a day of their exploits and antics.

The occasional Friday road trip gang piled into a car this week and visited the Philadelphia Zoo. Their four little lion cubs were the big draw for me and the Philadelphia Zoo never disappoints. Their tree-top trail theme has expanded to include larger primates and now the big cats also have access to this great enrichment. There is nothing quite as thrilling looking up to see a gorgeous tiger overhead, licking his chops. They are in the process of building an overhead trail for the gorillas too. We will be back.

Last month’s min-zoocation in New England finished up at the always fun Stone Zoo in Stoneham MA where we got to see adorable Lynx cubs, two Colobus babies and a gorgeous new wolf troop.
There are still a few spaces left in next Saturday’s photo workshop (November 8th, from 8:30 to 10:30) at the Central Park Zoo. We won’t be having a pumpkin fest but we will be doing other fun things. Sign up here and enjoy lots of photo ops – all before the zoo opens.

Last Sunday’s photo workshop at the Central Park Zoo was a blast. Most of today’s photo montage is filled with fun pumpkin and gourd enrichment from last weekend’s class experience.
In two weeks, on Saturday, November 8th, from 8:30 to 10:30 another photo workshop will be held at the Central Park Zoo. We won’t be having a pumpkin fest but we will be doing other fun things. Sign up here and enjoy lots of photo ops – all before the zoo opens.

My yearly autumn pilgrimage to visit with good friends in New England is never complete without a visit to the always enjoyable and growing, Southwick’s Zoo. Fall is the most beautiful time of year to visit. The zoo closes for the season at the end of October and reopens in the spring. We will be back.

What do zoo fans do in their free time? We visit other zoos, of course. While visiting the fabulous Toledo Zoo last week, we took a ride to the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo in nearby Indiana. It has been on my ‘to do’ list for a long time and I was not disappointed. The zoo’s history is interesting and their exhibit animals are varied and unique. The zoo is open just six months a year and is loyally supported by it’s citizenry.
Next Sunday (October 19th) is our Central Park Zoo fall foliage photography workshop featuring enrichment pumpkins and fun for all. There are still a few places available – guaranteed fun.
Also – on Saturday, November 8th from 8:30 to 10:30, we are running another photography opportunity. Come one, come all. Check out all of the details (workshop includes breakfast and a chance to speak with our hard working keepers at their exhibits).
