I hadn’t been to the Bronx Zoo in about a year and decided to head a bit north for a visit. This large zoo never disappoints. It is difficult to visit every habitat (but I sure did try). I missed a few key areas but will return soon.

The heat was surely on these last couple of weeks in NYC. It seemed to be a good idea to spend some of my time chilling with the penguins at the Central Park Zoo. Our zoo has four species of penguin – King, Gentoo, Macaroni and Chinstrap. The exhibit is chilly and fun. Come visit and stay cool with our fine feathered friends. Also wanted to give you a heads up about our Central Park Zoo Fall Photo Experience. It is ‘live’ on the WCS website now. The session which will feature pumpkins and is called Zoo Views: Animals in Autumn: Sun, Oct 27, 2019 8:30AM – 10:30AM. It is my favorite photo class and time of the year. Hope to see you in the fall. Click here to sign up

A recent trip to visit old friends in Toledo and South Bend, Indiana was loads of fun. Our friend, Josh Sisk is now acting director at the Potawatomi Zoo and is doing an amazing job. What a fun visit and reunion. This 23 acre facility is beautiful – with a varied and interesting collection. The sightlines are wonderful and the habitats are large and user friendly to the visitor. They have eight species of primates, four species of big cats, Sichuan Takins (with two babies), camels, okapis and much more. There is something new and fascinating around every corner. Thank you Josh for your generosity and time. We loved our visit and will be back for sure.

While most caregivers in the animal kingdom are mothers, there are some fathers who join in the role as caregiver. I salute some of those fathers out there in today’s photo montage. Coincidentally – tomorrow is also National Martini Day. Why not celebrate that special day today?

A very Happy Mother’s Day to all of the mothers, caregivers, nurturers, pamperers, surrogates and loving coddlers out there. My mother, Lillian Wolfe, is long gone, but her advice, warnings and general ‘Lili-isms’ live on in our daily lives. She taught us to laugh at life, to think, to question authority, to march, to protest – to fight the good fight. She also gave us our moral compass – one glance from Lillian told us instantly whether our behavior was acceptable or not – and I got a lot of glances. My sister Terry and I remember many childhood events differently but we both agree that our mother was a pistol. Here’s to Lillian Wolfe – she formed and informed what we are today.

We headed south for a day trip to the Philadelphia Zoo this week. Other than the enormous crowds (who knew it would be crowded on a Tuesday)? – we had a fun visit. Many additions and upgrades were noted, including the repurposed polar bear exhibit which is now inhabited by penguins. Also we noticed many more bird habitats, tree top trails and food options. The Philadelphia Zoo is always a fun visit.

March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb. Enjoy some of these sweet lambs in today’s photo montage. All of these photos were taken at my home base, the Central Park Zoo. Sorry to say they have all grown up now but I remember them as they were – so very cute.

The zoo of my childhood is always fun to visit. Seeing snow amidst the animal collection makes for some pretty photo ops too. Go visit!

Zoo #7 on our Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas zoocation was the enormous (119 acres) Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden. It has about 1900 animals in captivating habitats. There was a lot of walking and gawking and we enjoyed ourselves a great deal. Also was introduced to an animal I had never seen before – a tayra (fifth row down on my photo montage). If you are near Oklahoma City I encourage you to visit.
