Enez in hot tubFriday’s storm (aka Nemo) hit the Big Apple with a gentle touch.  Nothing could keep me from getting some post-storm shots at the Central Park Zoo.  Enjoy the snow loving animals and please watch my friend and zoocation buddy, Mary Schwalm’s  time lapse video of little Barbie getting creamed by a heavy hitting Nemo in her backyard in North Andover MA.   If you subscribe to my weekly photos (and get them in your in-box) you are probably not able to view my videos from your inbox image.  Just scroll up and click on the blue link (which is the name of today’s send) and it will take you back to my ‘While at the Zoo’ website where you can watch today’s video selection. WINTERARRIVESCPZ

Happy Holidays from Casa Lobo‘Tis better to give than to receive. It is a great adage and we saw it first hand when some of the animals at the Central Park Zoo got surprise food treats this week disguised in festive holiday casing. Check out our snow leopard, snow monkeys, red pandas, Southern coatis, saki monkeys, black and white ruffed lemurs, banded mongoose, muntjac and cotton top tamarins being enriched by our gifts.

The handsome dog above is of course Benny, my oft photographed pooch.  A very Happy Holiday season to all of you from the gang at Casa Lobo.

Enjoy this video I took on December 20th, 2009 when we had a foot of snow fall in the City. Along with the snow our then three year old snow leopard got a holiday gift to play  with all day.

Madison Square Park Reflections December 16, 2012

Benny and meMadison Square Park is the park where Benny, my dog, and I spend lots of time.  Benny’s time is spent sniffing and dreaming of catching that elusive squirrel and I daydream, reflect, chat with neighbors, other dog walkers, and strangers. Beginning in 1912, Madison Square Park was home to the first public holiday tree in the nation.  Considering the special 100th year anniversary Benny and I spent some quality time admiring this year’s tree.  If you look closely you can see both of us in the reflections.  Madison Square Park was home to the torch of the Statue of Liberty for six years to raise funds for the completion of the statue and its pedestal.  There is also a suggestion that the southwest corner of Madison Square Park is where America’s pastime, baseball, got its mid-19th century start.game.. Whatever the history – enjoy today’s reflections.

Regardless of your opinion about explorer Christopher Columbus, this public art installation  at Columbus Circle is interesting and thought provoking. Japanese artist Tatzu Nishi continues his oeuvre of transforming statues, monuments and architectural details.  We get an intimate perspective of the statue, fabulous views and a six story walk up for exercise. You have until November 18th to check it out.  It is free and worth your time.

June is busting out all over the Central Park Zoo. There’s so much to enjoy when you plan a day at the zoo. Along with our fabulous collection of penguins, puffins, sea ducks, black and white ruffed lemurs, red pandas and of course, Gus, our polar bear we now have a collection of bugs!
