Timing is everything. We happened to go to the Metropolitan Museum on opening day of their new site specific roof installation. The Theater of Disappearance by Argentine artist, Adrian Villar Rojas was a curious joy to behold. Rojas, only 37, is the youngest artist to have this honor bestowed upon him. It is a 21st century installation created with digital imagery, 3d printing and mashups. Did I understand it all? Absolutely not – but I sure did enjoy it. If you are curious, here is a terrific, explanatory review of the installation. If you go to see it (thru October 29th), perhaps ordering a cocktail at the roof bar is a good idea.

Winter gave us one last gasp of cold, wind and snow this week. The animals at the Central Park Zoo did not mind at all. Come visit before it all melts away.

In anticipation of this week’s St Patrick’s Day celebrations I thought gathering photos of ‘green’ animals might be fun. All of today’s photos are from the Central Park Zoo except for the bottom photo which is of green iguanas at the Prospect Park Zoo. And speaking of green animals, Kermit said it best: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpiIWMWWVco

Every once in awhile I break from the usual Sunday zoo photos. We went up to the NY Botanical Garden in the Bronx to see the Orchid Show: Thailand. It is an enormous exhibition filled with color, light, shadow, shape, sounds and smells. It is open through April 9th and I highly recommend a visit.

While there was still snow on the ground I recently paid a visit to the terrific Prospect Park Zoo. The zoo of my childhood keeps getting better and better.

All WCS zoos were closed on February 9th during the snowstorm. I was at the zoo bright and early the next day to catch our amazing collection as they emerged from their holding areas to see the freshly fallen snow. What fun.
