I have been to Little Island many times since it opened two years ago and thought it was time to take some new photos from Friday to share. It is one of the best free spaces in Manhattan and if you haven’t visited it – please try to make the time. Also – Pier 57, which is right next door has finally opened its James Beard Foundation food hall. Lunch was yummy.

I took a three day vacation to visit good friends in Washington, DC this past week. It is a great sightseeing town and even better when friends live there. We visited the always active National Zoo https: especially to see their brand new Bird House. It did not disappoint. Well lit and well designed with a very up close and personal experience with their exhibit birds. The huge outdoor aviary is not finished yet but we will surely visit again when it is completed. Also wanted to see their two new Andean bear cubs but sadly when we got to their habitat the cubs were not outside. Sigh. Enjoy my photos and see your tax dollars at work.

I am not a sports fan. I still mourn the Dodgers leaving Brooklyn. But since everyone is talking about brackets and basketball I thought I would share the type of ball playing that I like to watch. It was great fun searching my photo archives looking for balls as enrichment. Score!

Tomorrow, March 20, we celebrate World Frog Day as we join in the worldwide tribute to these amazing amphibians. World Frog Day was first established in 1995 as a way to raise awareness about frogs and other amphibians. Not only are frogs fascinating creatures, but they also play an important role in our environment. Five fun facts about frogs 1. A group of frogs is called an army. 2. Frogs drink water through their skin. 3. Frogs are found all over the world. 4..The world’s largest frog species is known as the ‘Goliath Frog.’ 5. A frog’s eyes and nose are on the very top of their heads.

It is that time of year when we spring our clocks forward one hour. There are lots of opinions about this issue. I don’t have an opinion about changing the clocks – I just love clocks. I have more clocks in my house than I need and I like looking at them. And by the way – I am never late. My sister Terry alerted me to The Horological Society of NY because she knows how passionate I am about clocks. Located in a beautiful old building in midtown Manhattan it is a gem of a find. The collection on view now is from James Arthur. Lots and lots of pocket watches. Wonder if the ladies of the day had watches. Did they even have pockets? Tempus fugit my friends.

This winter has thus far been a bust in NYC. I know it has been hard in other places that normally do not get snow but for us…meh. I do not drive and do not have to shovel, so for me, the snow is an opportunity to simply admire nature and take lots of photos of beautiful animals at the Central Park Zoo. I searched my photo archives for some of my favorite snow photos. I enjoyed my trip down memory lane and hope you do too. It’s a Small World After All February 26, 2023

Run, don’t walk to see this wonderful, fun, inspiring exhibit that opened this week in Manhattan (718 Broadway). Small is beautiful, Miniature Art presents 32 international artists and their work. ‘It is an incredible journey and a unique experience that offers behind-the-scenes access to small-scale universes full of artistry and poetry, whose only limit is the creative vision of their authors’. I left my own reflection in some of these photos so you can see how very small the artwork is. This is a delightful voyage inside creative minds and their worlds. It is suitable for the entire family. Don’t forget to watch the video towards the end of the exhibit. And of course you exit through the fun gift shop. They told me it will be there through August.

Valentine’s Day is my second favorite enrichment time for our Central Park Zoo animals (pumpkins are first). The keeper staff has fun creating new items for enrichment and our collection animals (and I) enjoy it very much. Hope you get a few smiles from these photos too.
