The last colorful gasp of fall is in the air. The Central Park Zoo‘s temperate animals are more active, the crowds are thinner and it is a great time to visit the zoo. Come join us for another in our Photo Series on January 24th from 8:30 to 10:30 as we enjoy Breakfast with the Birds in the warm Tropic Zone. Get details and sign up here.
My zoocation buddy and good friend Mary Schwalm is again offering her amazing 2016 desk calendars. Most of the images are from this year’s Texas zoocation. The calendar makes a great gift for office an swap, holiday party, stocking stuffer, and a unique gift to enjoy throughout the year. Just $10 – for details click here.

Another amazing visit to the Toledo Zoo to see good friends and have mini-reunions. Got to see my first Tasmanian Devil, their adorable baby orangutan, juvenile yaks and reindeer, young camels, hungry sloths, got to touch an octopus and see their beautiful display of holiday lights. Sheer delight was had by being able to hold their young Eurasian Eagle Owl, named Loup, on my arm. Very, very cool. Thanks everyone – I’ll be back.

Thanksgiving is all about food, fun, family, friends and giving thanks. I am thankful for the opportunity each day to have incredible, beautiful creatures in my life and to be able to share their uniqueness through my photos. Thank you for looking at my photo montage each week and thank you for your feedback. Madison the elder cat, the amazing two year old kittens, Audrey and Roberta and I wish you all a very warm, healthy and safe Thanksgiving. This is the first Thanksgiving in 10 years without our adorable Benny the dog . I give thanks for those 10 years that we had with him.

A midweek trip south to the Philadelphia Zoo was well worth the two hour drive. We had the zoo mostly to ourselves and all of the animals were awake and active. The Philadelphia Zoo never disappoints.

A recent visit to New England to see good friends brought us to the nearby Stone Zoo. A wonderful zoo surprise was seeing a five day old colobus monkey clinging to its mother. The donations to the Binky Foundation in Benny the dog’s memory keep on coming. Thanking you all so much for remembering my sweet little guy in this way.

My annual fall trip to see good friends in New England always includes a visit to Southwick’s Zoo . The autumn leaves, the chilly air and their wonderful collection made for a memorable visit.
Please visit the Binky Foundation’s site today to see the thoughtful and sweet Remembrance for my dear Benny the dog. Thank you to those that contributed to the site in his memory. Your generosity and kindness in remembering him with a donation to his (and my)
favorite animal foundation warmed my heart. He was a very good boy.

I admit to not being useful in a kitchen and to being a very picky eater but I do enjoy going to the Union Square Greenmarket to photograph their seasonal offerings. The colors, shapes and smells are a feast for both the palate and the palette. Enjoy my Octoberfeast!

Frida Kahlo – Art – Garden – Life at the NY Botanic Garden has been a blockbuster show with over 750,000 people attending over the past few months. We went early on a beautiful sunny day and had the place almost to ourselves. The Haupt Conservatory has been re-imagined as Casa Azul, the home she shared with Diego Rivera in Mexico City. The Mertz Library features 14 original works (no photography allowed – so we took mental pictures). If you cannot make it to the Garden by November 1st, enjoy today’s montage.

Last Sunday I devoted my photo montage to adorable ‘AJ’ the baby tamandua. Here are some of the other beautiful animals we met as well. Thanks again to General Curator and Veterinarian, Dr. Marc Valitutto for a fabulous visit.
Reminder – on Sunday, October 25th, I will be leading a photo workshop at the Central Park Zoo from 8:30 to 10:30. The theme is PUMPKINS! Up close and personal with animals enjoying pumpkin enrichment. Sign up here.
