Yesterday, September 20th was International Red Panda Day. We were fortunate this year to meet a lot of red pandas – especially on our Tennessee Zoocation and at the National Zoo’s SCBI. Today’s montage is dedicated to some of those gorgeous creatures including Rocco, Wendee, James, Wyatt, Amaya, Biru, Azizi and Jabari. Here are seven fun things you may not know about red pandas.

Wildlife photography is great fun – especially when you get amusing photos that cry out for captions. Here are some photos for you to enjoy and caption. Feel free to share your wit with the rest of us on my website comments space.
For all of those camera enthusiasts out there, I’ll be running a Fall Foliage photography workshop at the Central Park Zoo on October 19 from 8:30 to 10:30. I will arrange some special pumpkin and other activities so you can get great animal shots. Here is a link to last year’s photos from this event. Pumpkintastic!

What a treat to introduce two out of town friends to the fun at the always terrific Staten Island Zoo. We got to meet a new young Ground Hornbill, along with old friends such as CC the sloth, Gregory the Fennec Fox, the fast growing Arctic Fox pups and of course, the popcorn smelling adorable, baby Binturong. Thanks again to Vet and General Curator, Marc Valitutto for his time and energy. We loved our visit (and will be back).

I interrupt the usual Sunday Zoo photos to bring you photos from the 2014 US Open where I am enjoying a 10 day stint. The action is great, the sun is hot, and it is a fun change of pace. And yes, that’s my dog, Benny, enjoying his US Open tennis ball at home.

Dale Chihuly is an international art star. He changed the course of glass art with his innovation, creativity and amazing talent. I’ve been following him since his days of glass blowing at RISD’s Tillinghast Farm in the ’60’s. Last week’s trip to Seattle brought us to the Chihuly Garden and Glass Museum in the shadow of the landmark Space Needle. Colortastic!

We had a terrific trip to Seattle Washington this week and of course visited the Woodland Park Zoo. There are so many wonderful things to do in Seattle our zoo visit was abbreviated – but terrific none the less. Below today’s montage you will find a short clip of a large male sea lion enjoying a fresh salmon catch at Seattle’s Hiram M. Chittenden Locks. Enjoy!

It has been almost four months since I shared photos from my home base, the Central Park Zoo. Our May, all Tennessee Zoocation, my June Arctic adventure and visits to other terrific zoos have made me derelict in sending out photos from my favorite zoo. Enjoy!

Another terrific, fun visit to the Staten Island Zoo. This gem of a zoo gets better with each passing week. Thanks again to General Curator and Vet, Marc Valitutto for his time and insight. We all had loads of fun meeting a baby binturong (still smells like popcorn), adorable arctic fox pups, a kangaroo joey, sweet fennec fox, Neeble, the young cassowary, a baby Patagonian cavy, MJ, the almost full grown Tamandua and of course, CC the wonder sloth. Enjoy!
