The term ‘sitting ducks’ is usually not taken literally – but here you go. For those that ask me to identify my photos the following ducks are featured today. Chinese Mandarins, Spectacled and Common Eiders, Red-breasted Mergansers, Harlequins, Marbled Teal, White-headed, Pink-eared, Falcated, Philippine, Ruddy shelducks, Long-tailed, Scaly sided Mergansers, Pygmy geese (really ducks) and Baer’s Pochard. All of these photos were taken at the Central Park Zoo and the mature ducks can be seen today at the Zoo.

While recovering from knee replacement surgery (ouch) I decided to recycle some of my older Sunday photo montages until I am back in camera ready action. Enjoy these shots from 2013 and hope to see you soon with new montages.

There are few things as much fun as watching zoo animals step foot on newly fallen snow. We were at the Central Park Zoo the Monday after the big blizzard to witness this joy. Our Breakfast with the Birds class that was scheduled for Blizzard Sunday has been rescheduled for next Sunday, Feb 7th from 8:30 to 10:30. There are a few slots still available. Come join the fun. As most of you know, on the first day of spring we got four inches of snow in the Big Apple. I thought it was a good time to share some of the last snowy day zoo photos for awhile (I hope).

Yes, it is cold but if you are dressed correctly winter is just about the best time to visit a zoo. The crowds are gone and many of the temperate animals are more active and engaging. Today’s montage is devoted to that energy.
Want to see these gorgeous animals up close an very personal? Come to my next Wildlife Photo Workshop at the Central Park Zoo on Sunday, January 25th from 8:30 to 10:30. Click here, scroll to Adult Programs and sign up.

Wildlife photography is great fun – especially when you get amusing photos that cry out for captions. Here are some photos for you to enjoy and caption. Feel free to share your wit with the rest of us on my website comments space.
For all of those camera enthusiasts out there, I’ll be running a Fall Foliage photography workshop at the Central Park Zoo on October 19 from 8:30 to 10:30. I will arrange some special pumpkin and other activities so you can get great animal shots. Here is a link to last year’s photos from this event. Pumpkintastic!

It has been almost four months since I shared photos from my home base, the Central Park Zoo. Our May, all Tennessee Zoocation, my June Arctic adventure and visits to other terrific zoos have made me derelict in sending out photos from my favorite zoo. Enjoy!

New York City’s snowfall in 2013 amounted to 27 inches. It is only February and we have already tracked 40 inches with more snow coming later today. SNOWPOCALYPSE!

We did not get much snow earlier this week but we got enough for some fun snow photos of the zoo residents (especially the snow leopard twins) enjoying their first snow of the season. My own kittens, Audrey and Roberta, enjoyed watching their first snowfall too. Check out the video below today’s photo montage.

It has been a couple of months of Sundays (and occasional Wednesdays) since I have featured my home base, the Central Park Zoo. There’s lots going on at NYC’s little gem of a zoo. We have three Swan Goose goslings, young Patagonian Cavy twins, baby Banded Mongooses and a young Victorian Crowned Pigeon. The usual cast of other wonderful animals includes Gus the polar bear, three acrobatic sea lions, April, Katy and Edith and the largest sea duck collection in a zoo in North America. Come visit – There’s no place like home!
