Do you find yourself catching some extra Zzzz’s these days. Are you bored? Are you yawning? This is day 38 for me staying at home as a non-essential person. Hats off and loud cheers to all of the essential folk out there. I appreciate your heroic and difficult efforts during this COVID19 pandemic. So what have I been doing? I have brought out my art supplies and hit the drawing board which feels pretty good. I am a bit rusty but other than my three cats and a dog, who is going to judge me? I keep in touch with the heroic zookeepers and education staff at the Central Park Zoo who are keeping everything going. I check in on my sick friends daily. I text a lot, enjoy some face-timing with family and friends and get and send many silly memes which always make me laugh. I try to reach out via telephone to two people a day and have longer chats than usual. Of course there are always dog walks. I read the newspaper – even the articles I am not very interested in. Am I bored? Not really. But I thought these yawning photos of animals might make you smile – and we all can use that. Stay safe out there.

As predicted, when I posted March comes in like a lion you just knew I would also post that March goes out like a lamb. I do hope that all of you are healthy and following the social distancing guidelines. It is day 16 for me at home and I am whittling down my ‘to do’ list. Think I either have to slow down or start to make another list. Enjoy some of these sweet lambs in today’s photo montage. All of these photos were taken at my home base, the Central Park Zoo. Sorry to say they have all grown up now but I remember them as they were – so very cute.

Seeing as how March 1st falls on a Sunday I could not resist the corny idea of posting photos of lions.

Last Sunday’s photo experience at the Central Park Zoo was great. The weather was on our side and the zoo’s animal collection were ready for some Valentine treats. The animals were enriched by the different Valentine themed items placed in each of their habitats. The photographers had almost as much fun (or maybe more) as the animals. Thanks to the Central Park Zoo’s talented and creative zookeepers and managers who made this one heartfelt day.

The same rainy, windy, grey late fall day that we visited the Roger Williams Park Zoo in Providence RI, we stopped in at the Capron Park Zoo in Attleboro MA. Again – I believe we were the only two visitors. Despite the weather we had a great time. We got to see two tree climbing river otters (another first for us). The zoo is eight acres but packs a lot into that space. They have three very vocal loving lions who entertained us for quite awhile. If you are in the area I encourage a visit. Last call for next Sunday’s Valentine Tails photo session at the Central Park Zoo. A very few spaces remain open. See ya then.

My California family visited NYC Thanksgiving week. We did lots of great fun touristy things like walking over the Brooklyn Bridge and then having Grimaldi’s pizza in Brooklyn (yum), the Thanksgiving Day parade, the High Line and the Vessel at Hudson Yards. Not to be missed was a chance to go to Coney Island for some delicious Nathan’s hot dogs and fries. While at Coney Island we also visited the NY Aquarium. We were lucky that it was not crowded and could spend more quality time with these beautiful sea creatures. It was a fabulous week.

It has been another good photo year for new faces, places and spaces. Thank you for coming along for the ride. I celebrate the end of my 16th year of Sunday photo montages, and following tradition, I leave you with with no ‘ifs,’ – just ends and butts. Below is a list of some of the places that we have visited in 2019. We have not plotted out our 2020 zoocation but are looking forward to more zoos next year and wishing you all a very Happy Zoo Year!Prospect Park Zoo – Winter 2019 December 15, 2019

I had the pleasure of spending a few days in the past month at the Prospect Park Zoo. As some of you know – this was the zoo of my childhood so it holds a very special place in my heart. I googled Prospect Park Zoo and got some interesting history facts here. Please visit if you can while their two red panda cubs are still young and you might also get to see their week old baby boy Hamadryas baboon.Zoocation 2019 ends with the San Francisco Zoo December 8, 2019

The 9th and final stop on Zoocation 2019 was the always enjoyable San Francisco Zoo. My good friend and Co-Director of Animal Care Dom Dorsa greeted us and spent quality time showing us all of the new things that are happening at the zoo. I have been coming to SF Zoo for the past 20 years and it feels like a very comfortable second home. Thanks Dom for spending time with us. We will be returning soon.

Our penultimate stop on 2019 Zoocation was the always terrific Oakland Zoo. I have been visiting this facility for the past 20 years when my niece moved to the west coast. It has grown and only gotten more enjoyable with each visit. A big shout out to Chantal for arranging our visit and to docent Guy for a fun filled tour of the California trail. We spent a lot of time watching their bears play in the water and also spotting their litter of wolf pups. The views are amazing from the top of the facility. If you are on the west coast I encourage you to visit.
